Is it realistic to work in business fields with a Psychology degree?
I love studying psychology and find that it can help me move forward into becoming a clinical psychologist or academic counselor after undergrad. I find that a degree in psychology may be pretty versatile and would like to use it to explore careers in business as well. I plan on taking business classes to obtain a certificate from my community college and maybe even minor in Business while majoring in Psychology when I transfer to univeristy. I want to explore business administration, HR, and marketing, but I believe Psychology is my "stronger" suit, thus I want I major in Psychology and minor in BA/HR/marketing. However, I have read that many people struggle finding jobs in business with a Psychology degree. I am not sure if it is even worth putting my focus in business if business employers find my education non-sufficient. A lot of online forums and YouTube videos are especially discouraging. What do you think? Should I just focus on my goal of becoming a counselor instead? Thank you for your answers! #career #business #humanresources #marketing #businessmarketing #psychology #businessadministration #counselor #academiccounselor #univeristy #communitycollege #universityofcalifornia #psychmajor #psychologist #company
I'm currently in high school, but I have an interest in Psychology right now and I am wondering what it would entail if I want to pursue that in University and after that?
I enjoy the psychology class I am in right now and I like the idea of pursuing something in that area but I am not sure what to really do now. I should probably take a psychology class at University but I don't know what else there is and how to look at using that for my future. Thanks!

Can I work on independent research while not being a high school student?
My country’s academic system is different than the US. So, I have already graduated and I’m 18 still not in university, but I really want to do an independent research project and try to get it published somewhere. Is it possible or legitimate for me to do it on my own without teachers or help and use this project as an activity for my college application? It’s actually a passion project and not to make my application look good, however, I have seen that most of these are done with mentors and such and I don’t have one available and I am unsure on where and how I could find one. I wouldn’t need a lab because it’s for a psychology social research, I would just need people to answer a few questions I would formulate on a form and I would go from there.
Can you get an associate's degree in one subject and a bachelor's in another?
I am an aspiring LCSW in sophomore year. I am taking my associates in college this year, but I don't know if I should major in Psychology and English or Sociology and English (I have to take a college class for English, but It was also recommended that I take another dual college class as well). In college I want to major in Sociology, and I was wondering that if I were to take a Psychology class would it look perplexing on my College application.
Marriage Family Therapy (MFT) programs in California?
Hello! I am an undergraduate Psychology student in my last year of undergrad. I will be applying to in-state graduate schools this fall, but I worry about how competitive MFT programs are. As a first generation student, I’m worried that my experiences are not good enough. The only relevant experience I have is interning abroad with a social worker conducting therapy in a vulnerable population, being a peer resource mentor for psychology students on campus, and peer mentor for students with diverse cultural backgrounds (with emphasis on mental health and well-being). I have a 3.7 GPA and want to apply to CSU MFT programs. I don’t have a lot of time to devote to other extra curricular at the moment as I am currently holding two jobs as a peer mentor. What was your experience like applying to MFT programs? What were your stats? Did you take a gap year (if so, what was it like)? What programs would you recommend? How was your MFT program? Where are you now? I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions! I want to a bit more prepared, so thank you for helping me out :) #MFT #marriagefamilytherapy #marriagefamilytherapist #LMFT #psycchology #psychologygrad #psychgrad #psychgraduate #psychgraduates #psychologygraduate #psychologygraduates #psychstudent #psychologystudent #psychstudents #psychcologystudents #gradschool #graduateschool #applyingtogradschool #counseling #therapy #familytherapy #csu #csun #sfsu #csus #csulb #csuf #csudh #usf #pepperdine #therapist #therapists

Best extracurriculars for Psychology major?
I am in a community college studying psychology and want to apply to many great schools by the time I transfer! I am interested in getting my masters to become a clinical psychologist or educational counselor after undergrad. However, during the time I am in community college now, I want to increase my chances of getting accepted into a great school for psychology. I read on the internet that creating a podcast or talk would be a good one, but I dislike the idea of sharing my voice because I am very shy... but I do love to volunteer and offer my help to anyone needed! Because of the pandemic, I stopped volunteering at a school, but I hope to find similar opportunities soon. Is there a specific area of activity I should focus on? Should I find specific places/areas to volunteer/work/intern at? There is also a Certified Nursing Assistant certification program offered at my school-- would this be helpful? I just hope I can boost my application in all ways possible : ) Thank you for your answers! #college #psychology #psychologist #clinicalpsychologist #counselor #psychiatrist #mentor #guidancecounselor #academiccounselor #volunteering #remotevolunteering #university #communitycollege #universityofcalifornia
B.A. in Psychology + Associates in Business Management
Hi! Currently, I am obtaining an Associates's degree in Business Management from my community college before transferring into a university for a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology. I see that in the United States, people are especially discouraging of Psychology undergraduates in a business field. A lot of people would say to switch for a Bachelors in Business instead and get an Associates's in Psychology, which I do not plan on doing because I love my current placements. I have heard and read from many people that Psychology majors are deemed useful only within clinical and social works. If I were to take the path in those aspects, I am mainly interested in becoming a college academic advisor/counselor. However, I have put it in my best interest and am very determined to find myself a career in the business field after I graduate. I want to ask what is the REALITY of someone with a BA in Psychology and Associates in Business Management to be offered great positions in the business fields. What are some jobs and careers can I be qualified for with these degrees? What is something you would recommend me to do in order to gain experience or expose me to the works of psychology and business as an undergrad? Please give me any additional advice or information you think would be helpful too! I really appreciate and thank you for your responses! :-) #career #business #humanresources #human-resources #marketing #businessmarketing #business-marketing #psychology #businessadministration #business-administration #corporate #businessmanagement #business-management #counselor #academic-counselor #academiccounselor #univeristy #communitycollege #community-college #universityofcalifornia #university-of-california #psychmajor #psychologymajor #psych-major #psychology-major #company #california #unitedstates #uited-states

Work values for an academic counselor
In a high school setting, many students have extreme issues, be it with mental health, family, drugs, poor academic performance, etc. As a counselor, it should be one of your core values to care. However, where is the line drawn? To what point can you help them without crossing boundaries or compromising yourself?

Why are counselors important when it comes to mental health?
My dream career is to be a mental health counselor. Mental health counselors talk to a patient and get to know the person, they do this so they can give advice or feedback that relates more to the patient and their struggles. Speaking from personal experience I have found that counseling does work when you let it and find the right person for you. Once you find the right counselor it's easier for you to talk about things and easier for you to start working on yourself and your struggles. I did counseling for 3 years straight and switched through a bunch of medications until I finally let counseling help me and started taking the things my counselor told me to heart, he told me to start finding things I enjoyed and using them as a release for my darkness that I battle with, and I'm proud to say I have done these things and I'm doing better than I have been in a long time. Mental health counselors can save lives.

Would it be bad to get a bachelor's degree at a state college instead of a university?
I live about 20 minutes away from a state college that offers a bachelor's degree in Biology. That is what I plan to major in regardless of what school I to attend. I would rather go to a state college because I can live at home and I will save about 40,000 dollars, if I attend the state college nearby. Is this a good idea or should I go to a known university because it looks better on my resume? #counselor #academic-advisor #advising #advisory-boards
