How can I tell my parents that I do not want a career in the medical field?
I am Nigerian and all I have ever heard from my mom is that I should be a BSN or pharmacy. To please her, and to avoid conflict, I enrolled in college for nursing. I was unhappy. It took a while for me to gather my courage and change my major to biology. I did not inform them of the change so when they found out, they were very upset and are still upset. I don't know how to tell them that nursing is not where I see myself in the future. I may be in college a bit longer than others, but I am now very happy with my choice. #biology #counselor #parent-communication

Is it better to go to a more prestigious, but more expensive, school for undergrad before medical school or to go to a state school for less money?
I'm a high school junior looking to apply to schools like Vanderbilt and Cornell, but also James Madison and Ohio University. All are excellent schools, however Vanderbilt and Cornell are generally known as more academically challenging and prestigious than others. I am looking to apply to medical school after earning my bachelor's degree, and was curious as to how much influence this had on me getting into the best medical schools. Is it better for me to spend more money and get the "higher level" degree, allowing me to network with the students and faculty there, or is it better to save some money and earn my degree at a cheaper school? Thanks! #college #doctor #pre-med #college-admissions #medical-school #counselor

Would it be bad to get a bachelor's degree at a state college instead of a university?
I live about 20 minutes away from a state college that offers a bachelor's degree in Biology. That is what I plan to major in regardless of what school I to attend. I would rather go to a state college because I can live at home and I will save about 40,000 dollars, if I attend the state college nearby. Is this a good idea or should I go to a known university because it looks better on my resume? #counselor #academic-advisor #advising #advisory-boards
