Would it be rude to tell my teacher to stop smoking, if not, how can I put it as gently as possible?
She is an amazing teacher who knows a great deal. She has control of the class and makes learning effective but her breath and classroom smells of cigarettes and coffee. For her well being I want her to stop smoking and in turn help me and my classmates learn better without worrying about second hand smoking. Just to clarify, she doesn't smoke in class, she takes breaks to smoke and the stench attaches itself to her and dissipates in the room. It bothers my classmates and I, taking away from our learning in our STEM class. I am Nigerian and all I have ever heard from my mom is that I should be a BSN or pharmacy. To please her, and to avoid conflict, I enrolled in college for nursing. I was unhappy. It took a while for me to gather my courage and change my major to biology. I did not inform them of the change so when they found out, they were very upset and are still upset. I don't know how to tell them that nursing is not where I see myself in the future. I'm a high school junior looking to apply to schools like Vanderbilt and Cornell, but also James Madison and Ohio University. All are excellent schools, however Vanderbilt and Cornell are generally known as more academically challenging and prestigious than others. I am looking to apply to medical school after earning my bachelor's degree, and was curious as to how much influence this had on me getting into the best medical schools. Is it better for me to spend more money and get the "higher level" degree, allowing me to network with the students and faculty there, or is it better to save some money and earn my degree at a cheaper school?
