Should I keep dance only a hobby or a career?

I am a dancer since the age of 5, I have been in several dance classes, and dance troupes. I am studying in a Bachelor of Education but I do not want to teach dance to little kids. If I were to teach dance I would prefer to teach it to people my age and who enjoy dancing and being in touch with their feminine side. However, I do not really have experience in choreographing. #dance #choreography

I just finished a Physics Bachelor at ETH Zürich and I am starting a professional dance program at Steps on Broadway NY. I spent the last 2 months as an intern in a Data Science company. I also studied Architecture for one year and I love painting. I would love to do something useful for our society and feel attracted to the join between Physics and Medicine, as well as Environmental Science and renewable energies. As you see, I am interested in many subjects and struggling with todays super specialised careers. I have a technic profile, but I am a social person and I cannot picture myself as a lonely experimental physicist or a programmer... Any ideas on how to combine all my passions?

Can I double major in dance and attend law school?

My first passion is dance. I started when I was 2 and have loved it since. I would like to pursue a career in dance, but I’m afraid that it is unrealistic. This field is highly competitive. Therefore, I am looking for a Plan B. I’ve always been interested in law, specifically family law. I would like to know if it is possible to major in dance for my undergraduate degree and attend law school afterwards. If so, are there any additional classes, clubs, activities, etc that I should have under my belt for law school? #familylaw #dance #law

How Did You Figure Out What Your Dream Job Was?

I'm a high school senior who has wanted to be a veterinarian ever since middle school, but after shadowing every veterinarian in my area, I realized that I did not want to be a veterinarian anymore. Since then, I have changed my "career path" numerous times. I thought I wanted to be a wildlife biologist, a photographer, a dancer, a choreographer, a systems architect, a lawyer, an environmentalist, a teacher, a surgeon, and more. I just can't decide on anything and due to the fact that I have my 2-year AA degree (through PSEO) my generals are all completed so I really only need to do 2 more years of college for my intended major, but I don't know what it is yet. Any advice would be appreciated! #stressed #help #veterinarian #dance #choreography #wildlife-biology #environmental-science #systemsarchitect #surgeon #teacher #lawyer #photography #pseo

I will be a BFA Dance major in college. I am trying to choose from several offers. Is it reasonable for me to request/demand to take a few dance classes on my college visit to allow me to gauge the fit?

I have been accepted to several really good college dance programs and am still waiting on audition results from a few others. Once I have all the offers, my parents want us to visit the primary contenders. When I go to do these official campus visits, is it reasonable for me to request/demand the opportunity to participate in a few dance classes on my visit (or at least sit in on and watch if their is a liability concern by the college)? My dad said it is analogous to a college football recruit at least getting to sit in on watching formal practices to see how the coaches coach, which he knows is routinely allowed. #dance #dance-education

I am intending to pursue a BFA in Dance as my major in college with a minor Arts Management or Business with a career goal to dance professionally. How critical is it to attend a college in New York City vs great universities in places like Texas or Ohio?

My career vision is to dance professionally, including opportunities like a professional dance company, Broadway shows, LA productions, or traveling touring companies. I realize I cannot dance forever, so I would then want to transition into a role either as a choreographer, setter, or in the marketing or management area of the industry. I have been accepted to some great universities in my home state of Texas as well as Ohio, PA and VA. I have also been accepted by some good schools in New York City, but they are not the academic powers that some of the non-NYC universities are, but I feel like I almost have to go to one of the NYC colleges because of their dance department reputations and being in NYC for college to give me the best shot at achieving my career goals. So, is it really THAT critical to go to college in NYC if you want to dance professionally? #dance #dance-education

Is it better to audition with dancing or without dancing?

I am looking to apply to several colleges for musical theater, but I am not the best dancer. I can sort of follow a choreographer, but I'm not as precise as many other people and I'm afraid that my dancing may be the make or break point for accepting me into their university. One of my closest friends who did get into a college for musical theater did tell me that they start you from the basics anyways in college, regardless of how well or how bad you did at the auditions, and that they just want to see potential for growth. 1) Is that true? And 2) is it better for me to audition for a college that only requires my stronger points (which is singing and acting) or to a college that I may not get into because someone is a better dancer than me? Also, how big of a part does the interview play? Is it a major deciding factor? Is it often that the acceptance team will like a person so much that they would disregard a specific lack of something? Much advice is appreciated! #musical-theatre #college #college-admissions #college-major #college-bound #dance #music #acting

What are the odds of me making in in musical theater?

Hey there! Currently a high school senior about to make the biggest decision of my life. Since I was a little girl, I have been in love with performing (seriously, I loved to sing linkin park all the time when I was two.) When I got into middle school and got my first supporting role, I knew thats what I wanted to do. It was my passion, what I looked forward to every day after school, especially so, as I am an honors student. But, as I'm getting ready to apply, and maybe audition for colleges, I'm starting to wonder if it is really worth it. I know I have potential, for sure, but is it really enough to get me to the top? My strongest suit is my singing and music. I have been taking music theory classes for about three years now and have been in choir classes since the fourth grade. I adore music with all of my heart. Only problem is that I haven't taken any acting or dance classes. I can follow a choreographer pretty well, but ask me to freestyle and I freeze up. My acting skills, I'm not to worried about, but I'm scared my singing has been more of a handicap in our school's shows. Of course I've been the lead in our drama club's shows for the past two years, but that's just the problem; 1) I haven't faced true rejection yet and 2) My school doesn't have drama classes. I don't know anything about real world auditions, along with other things people learn in Theater I and II. All I know is that I love the thrill of performing and just being able to showcase my talents and share the joy of musical theater to people who, like me currently, truly appreciate the art of theater. My stepmom is a pretty successful celebrity makeup artist, however. She's done many people's makeup and has very good relations with celebrities like Steve Martin and Edie Brickell (who wrote the 2016 tony nominated broadway show, Bright Star) and Anna Camp, amongst many others. Of course it's rude of her to talk to them still and ask favors, but the kind of influencial people that she has gathered due to her cliental may see one of the many videos she posts of me performing. This may give me a slight edge in the industry. However, this alone probably isn't enough to get me in. I just want to know if it is really realistic for me to make it on broadway. I don't care about the money or fame. I don't even care if its on or off or even off-off broadway. As long as I am performing for people, I'll be happy. I know there are certainly risks to take, but I want to know the odds of me being able to do what I love most for the early years of my life. Thank you so much for sticking to this and reading the whole thing. Any advice is seriously appreciated and taken into consideration! #theater #broadway #broadway-musicals #acting #dance #singing
