How can I land my first job as a data analyst?

How can I land my first job as a data analyst? I have been studying data analytics for a while now. And I have extensive experience in the banking and finance industry. but it just seems impossible for me to land my first job as a data analyst. I must have applied for more than 200 jobs by now, and I had my CV looked at by professionals whom I paid more than 100 dollars for and I update my cover letters according to different jobs. But I have only gotten one interview. I don't understand what's happening. Is it that hard to land your first job as a data analyst?? PS: Thank you everyone for your answers. I think what I lack is networking. I have the technical skills required for at least a junior data analyst, I've got SQL excel, tableau even Power Bi. I have many qualifications and certificates from reputable universities. For example, my certificate for Power Bi is with the University of Sydney. And I'm currently studying Master of Business Analytics at the University of Technology Sydney. I have participated in Virtual Internship with KPMG and I have Google Data Analytics certificate as well. But, I am not a big fan of networking to be honest, and I use to hate those events, it really felt like a slaughter market for me lol! I think I should change my mindset and be brave. Thanks guys!

What is the difference between data science and machine learning?

I've been looking into data science careers, and I know that it is closely related with machine learning and big data. I'm confused as to what the difference between data science and machine learning is, and also how big data plays in a part in both fields. What exactly is data science and machine learning, and how are they related to each other (and how does big data tie into them)? Any help would be greatly appreciated. #data-analysis #data-science #computer-science #computer-software #big-data #machine-learning #data-visualization #data #data-mining

Opportunities for data scientists?

I am a college student majoring in Environmental Science. I'm considering adding a second major of Data Science. However, I am wondering how many opportunities there are for data scientists that are not working for just any large company to help them maximize profits. For example, are there opportunities for data science in the renewable energy field, such as using data to problem solve/ figure out how to transition to renewable energy or similar topics? I am interested in environmental-related things but also any other interesting/ meaningful application of data science that I may not be aware of. Thank you for your time.

Data Science/Scientist Questions

I recently learned about the field of Data Science. I'm seriously considering a career in Data Science because it combines my interests in math, computer science, research, and writing. I'm really interested in learning more about it as a career. My questions are: 1.) What do data scientists do? 2.) According to an article I found on Indeed, some things that data scientists may do include "working in social media companies and using the user data to understand habits and suggest content that the users will enjoy. They may also work in politics and make predictions about the election results. " What else may they work on besides this? I like the idea of studying retail data, or data on where college graduates relocate to. 3.) Does it involve a lot of math, or is it mostly computer-based? 4.) What are the pros and cons of this career? 5.) Is it in demand? When I was researching data science on LinkedIn, I found a disheartening number of posts by laid-off data scientists. 6.)How much education to you need to become a data scientist? 7.) Are data scientist jobs mostly in person or remote. If they're in person, where are they mostly located (e.g. East/West Coast, big cities, specific cities, etc.) 8.) Is it a popular career choice? Is it a popular career choice among women? 9.) What classes/self-study courses should I take to see if I would enjoy being a data scientist? 10.) Can you get an MBA with a focus in data science? If you can think of anything else that would be useful for me to know, I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance!! :)

What are the best data science courses/nanodegrees I can take online?

I'm currently a third year computer science major, and I've recently discovered a passion for data science and machine learning. I've been trying to learn more about it, and I've found many online resources (Udacity's data analyst, machine learning nano degrees, Stanford's Intro to Machine Learning course taught by Andrew Ng, and various courses offered on Udemy). With all of these great resources, which one would be best for someone who is comfortable programming and wants to get more practical experience? Any advice would be very helpful (and even more so if you are a current data scientist!) and would be greatly appreciated! #machine-learning #data-analysis #data #big-data #computer-science #computer-software #data-science #data-mining #data-visualization

Is it beneficial to take online courses on Coursera or Udemy to learn data skills if I want to go into Data Science/Anaytics If so, what should I start with?

I'm in Grade 10, I have some coding experience with Python, and I want to be able to build my skill set so that I have time to improve later during high school. I also want to be able to use those skills to help others (volunteering). I've seen so many "roadmaps" for learning data skills, and they're all different, so I hope someone can clear this up for me. Thanks in advance!

Is there a place for data science generalists in the job market?

With some introspection these last few months, I found that no one field (e.g, analytics, natural language processing, experimentation, etc) in the data science space really draws me (though all are very interesting in their own way). With that being said, is it frowned upon in the job market to be more of a generalist data scientist than a specialist data scientist? In the past, my academic journey has allowed me to earn degrees in history, anthropology, mathematics, computer science, statistics, economics, political science. I suppose this conundrum I'm having in the data science space closely mirrors my experience back when I was an undergraduate. Perhaps a company or business may derive more value from someone who is more specialized in their subfield than someone who is fluent in most modalities but not particularly an expert in any one subfield. Though I would have to also add that domain knowledge and understanding of business context are important skills to have regardless if you're a generalist or specialist data scientist based on my what I've observed. #datascience #data #career #professionaldevelopment
