who decided that asking a bunch of kids fresh out of highschool to make a potentially 30,000$ decision to go to college?

most teenagers out of high school really have no idea what they are good at and what they want to do with their lives. and yet, at least in the united states, we beat it in to them that they need to go to college and get a degree without them having enough real experience to figure out what they want to do with their lives. not to mention informing them of the economic ramifications that come with it. potentialy getting into anywhere from 10k to 100k in debt before they are 25 years old. #whosideawasthis? #college-decisions #debt

What are the best tools for staying debt free when going to college?

I've heard stories of people getting "full rides" to college and I want to know how? Does that mean they will get their education at no financial cost? And if so, how can all of us students do that? Does it make sense to borrow money without getting a student loan?

The financial aid package for my graduate program includes only direct unsubsidized graduate loans. These loans have high interest rates and bad conditions. My tuition is very expensive and I am not receiving enough scholarship money to cover tuition, even if I get a high-paying part-time job. My parents have offered to cover some of the tuition by taking a loan through our bank, so that I do not have to take out so much in student loans. Does this make sense? Or do student loans come with special conditions or protections that regular loans don't have? #tuition #money #student-loans #loans #money-management #debt #college #financial-aid

My parents are separated, and my mother is barely able to keep my family afloat. Many nights I've had to go to bed hungry because my mother simply couldn't afford to buy food. Are doctorate degrees worth it?

We've all heard doctors make a lot of money. In a lot of cases, they really don't, especially if you take into consideration the fees they pay like insurances, and student loans. In addition, having a doctorate doesn't save you from being on call or working awful shifts. Are the student loans and other woes worth the stress of earning a doctorate? Is it fulfilling, and can you make a comfortable income to become debt free? #doctorate #debt #salary #studentloans

How does not having a #credit score effect one's significant #financial #decisions in life?

I've recently been viewing seminars by #Dave #Ramsey. He spoke of being #debt free and that having a #credit card is not necessary for #life. However, I know that some transactions request a credit score. Also, when shopping online or #traveling abroad I've always thought it was safer to have a credit card in case I'm #compromised so that I'm not losing my real money. However, being debt free is ideal and perhaps these #life events can still be accomplished #successfully without a credit score. I'd like to know what that potentially looks like.

I am a current college student in my sophomore year. I recently learned that my parent will only be able to contribute about 5% of my college education. What are some steps I can take to make college more affordable? I am already working as a co-op and saving as much as I can. I would prefer not to surrender my future to student debt. Thanks. #student-debt #debt #college-advice #money #help #scared #college
