If you hold a DMD can you become a dental hygienist?

Im a senior in high school and was interested in the dental field. Im aware to become a general dentist it takes about 8 years minimum as to become a dental hygienist it takes 2 years minimum. I had planned on getting my DMD degree at a university in Nevada, US in a matter of 4 years. Is it possible to use my DMD degree and become a dental hygienist for a period of time rather than graduating and heading to dental school to become a general dentist? #dentistry #dentist #dental-hygienist #dental

For a aspiring Orthodontist/Dentist what course would be reasonable to take, AP Stat or Pre-Calcu?

Today we were given our course registration for next year, which will be my senior year in high school. I'm currently in Algebra II and have the option of taking either AP Statistics or Pre-Calculus H next year. What would you recommend for an aspiring Orthodontist or Dentist? I know that most med schools require one of the two or a semester of Calculus and a semester of Statistics. My two dream colleges are Tufts University and Simmons College. I’m struggling between which of the two to take because my Geometry teacher from last year feels it will be a good fit to take AP Stats, while my Algebra II teacher feels I’ll benefit from pre-calc. Now I’m stuck because I feel If I pick between the two, my future in choosing colleges will be based off my senior year courses. #dentistry #dentist #orthodontist #pre-dental

Curious about Dental Hygiene and Dentistry.

I am a senior in high school and I'm close to applying to schools. But I want to become a dentist in the long run. but as of now that isn't until i finish my pre reqs to get into a dental school. So what I'm hoping for is that, wouldn't it be better if i went in for a dental hygiene major/ program got my AS and BS (I'm aiming for a BS so i can get the degree and the pre reqs for dental school) and started working after i graduate and then apply to dental school. AND before even that happens, where do I start? What school should I go to, which schools have a dental program or major that i can go straight into? What schools did you go into and how was the process? would it be better if i got the pre reqs before going into a dental hygiene program too? #medicine #dentistry #dentist #dental-hygienist #dental #family-dentistry #dental-practice #cosmetic-dentistry

doctor or dentist, i m confused

Hey. I hope you're doing good! I am confused about my future. This summer i have to choose my colleges, and my conselour told me that if i have my goal in my mind it would be easier for me to decide which college is the right one for me. I always wanted to make my parents proud of me, so i decided to become a doctor( physician or pediatrician) and show them that whatever they did for me, all the struggle and everything they went thtough, was and is worth it. I want them to make them feel proud, and happy. So i decided to become a doctor. Last year, i went to my cousin wh is a dentist and she has a cousin that is studying to become a doctor and she can't pass her MCAT. Okay first of all, i like both jobs even though doctor is my dream i don t have dentistry. I am thiking about dentistry cause a pediatrician and a physician is always on emergency calls and also they don't have time for their families. A dentist has some hours to go to work and they have some days off to, at times. ALso, a denitst studies 8 years while a doctor have to do residency too. I want to live a simple future, a smile life. I want to come home from my job have fun with my family, my kids and everyone else. Would that be possible? Please help me out, i will read everything. Thank you so much for reading this. #doctor #medicine #students #dentist #denitistry

Dental Hygiene?

I really want to be a dental hygienist. But I want to go to a 4 year college as I feel like that is the best option for me. Most schools in my state do not have Dental Hygiene as a B.S, only an A.S. Is there an equivalent major I can pursue (like BioChem) and then go for a year or 2 long program and become a licensed dental hygienist? #dentistry #dentist #dental-hygienist #dental #dental-hygiene #dental-practice

Hi, I want to be an Orthodontist but I want to first start with being a dental hygienist and move my way on up to be a orthodontist.

I have graduated from high school and will be attending a 2- year college but my plan is to be there for a year and might have to do some summer classes I believe and go to a four year college. I just want to know is this good route that I have planned for myself ? I'm also trying to find an internship that I can apply to get more knowledge of this profession. #dentistry #dentist #dental-hygienist #dental #orthodontist #dental-practice #cosmetic-dentistry

Is it better to pursue a residency after dental school or become a practicing associate dentist within an exisiting pracitce?

I was just curious about how dental graduates are pursuing their overall goal of becoming practicing dentists. I know that there are options to specialize after dental school but if you don't, should you look into a general practice residency. How many dentists end up being admitted to a general practice residency before working out of a private practice? #college #medicine #professional #dentist #dental
