If I were to become an orthodontist, which STEM field would be the most beneficial to major in for my undergrad?

I am a high school senior and plan on becoming an orthodontist. I know that your undergrad degree doesn't have to be of a specific major, but it is recommended to major in a science. I am debating between biology (general) and biochemistry. Orthodontics is largely overlooked and it's difficult to find the answers online. #dentistry #stem #orthodontist #stem1

Hello! I'm interested in dentistry, but I have a few concerns. Why is becoming a dentist a better choice than becoming an orthodontist? I feel like being dentist is very interesting, but even my local dentist has told me to look into what orthodontists do

Hello! I'm very interested in becoming a dentist. I first struggled with picking a career path, but I feel like dentistry is right for me. However, my local dentist has given me many questions that were left unanswered. I think being a dentist would be a very fulfilling job, but I don't know if I should look further into becoming an orthodontist. #dentistry

Curious about Dental Hygiene and Dentistry.

I am a senior in high school and I'm close to applying to schools. But I want to become a dentist in the long run. but as of now that isn't until i finish my pre reqs to get into a dental school. So what I'm hoping for is that, wouldn't it be better if i went in for a dental hygiene major/ program got my AS and BS (I'm aiming for a BS so i can get the degree and the pre reqs for dental school) and started working after i graduate and then apply to dental school. AND before even that happens, where do I start? What school should I go to, which schools have a dental program or major that i can go straight into? What schools did you go into and how was the process? would it be better if i got the pre reqs before going into a dental hygiene program too? #medicine #dentistry #dentist #dental-hygienist #dental #family-dentistry #dental-practice #cosmetic-dentistry

Dental Hygiene?

I really want to be a dental hygienist. But I want to go to a 4 year college as I feel like that is the best option for me. Most schools in my state do not have Dental Hygiene as a B.S, only an A.S. Is there an equivalent major I can pursue (like BioChem) and then go for a year or 2 long program and become a licensed dental hygienist? #dentistry #dentist #dental-hygienist #dental #dental-hygiene #dental-practice

Hi, I want to be an Orthodontist but I want to first start with being a dental hygienist and move my way on up to be a orthodontist.

I have graduated from high school and will be attending a 2- year college but my plan is to be there for a year and might have to do some summer classes I believe and go to a four year college. I just want to know is this good route that I have planned for myself ? I'm also trying to find an internship that I can apply to get more knowledge of this profession. #dentistry #dentist #dental-hygienist #dental #orthodontist #dental-practice #cosmetic-dentistry

On the path to dental school, is it recommendable to acquire a B.A in a major not in the science fields? or is it better to keep a one track mind to prepare for the DAT test?

I am very interested in being an orthodontist one day. Coming from a small town in Mexico were dental care is not available to everyone, my goal is to share my knowledge with such towns. was hoping to get a B.A in Latin American Studies to be better prepared to travel south america providing aid. I'm just not sure if it ill really make a difference to major in L.A studies for my undergrad years. #dentistry #orthodontist #latin-american-studies

Another question for dentists: would you say that it is an absolute MUST for one to be an extrovert in order to be a dentist?

Hello! My name is Jennifer, and I am a pre-dental student at Virginia Commonwealth University. I was wondering if any dentists out there would say that it is an absolute MUST for one to be an extrovert in order to be a dentist. A little bit about myself... For the majority of my life, I have been what most would consider extroverted. Most of my friends would tell you that I am a very outgoing, social, and personable individual. I do well in social/group settings because it's easy for me to meet new people and hold conversations. However, as I've grown older, I've learned a lot about myself and realized that the way I like to spend my free time has really changed. Whereas the "younger" me would prefer to meet with large groups of people and talk all day and night, the 23-year-old me prefers to be alone and relax by reading a book or watching television. In other words, socializing can sometimes be exhausting and deplete me of my energy. Being alone has the opposite effect now; I recharge and regain my energy when I am alone. So I guess you could say that I have become more introverted over the years. But having that said, I still thrive in social settings. I just prefer to be alone most of the time. I am asking this question because as a dentist, you interact with your employees and patients all day, and then when you come home, you interact with your family. To even have these interactions is a blessing because without the support of employees, patients, and family, you wouldn't be able to do what you do! But my concern is that if I know that I am the kind of person that needs my "me" time, is dentistry not the field for me? Or do you somehow make that time for yourself? Will I just end up miserable and tired? Thank you so much for your time. #dentistry #dentist #dental #family-dentistry #dental-practice #cosmetic-dentistry

A question for dentists: would you recommend working in an administrative position in a dental office before starting your own practice?

Hello! My name is Jennifer, and I am a pre-dental student at Virginia Commonwealth University. I was wondering if any dentists would advise pre-dental students to seek administrative positions in dental offices to learn more about the "business" side of running a practice. My general dentist told me that when he started his own practice, it was a huge struggle for him to become an expert in areas such as billing, insurance, etc. This really got me thinking. (I suppose it would be a lot easier if you were to join a group practice where there are already people in place who are in charge of those administrative duties.) I will be taking a gap year between the end of my undergraduate studies and dental school, so I was hoping to find a position during that time period that is 1) paid and 2) within a dental office. I would prefer to become a dental assistant so that I can add to my clinical experience, but in case I can't land an assisting position, I was wondering if you all would recommend a front desk position (or something along those lines). Thank you so much for your time! #dentistry #dentist #dental #administrative #administrative-work
