What should I do to increase my chances of getting into a dental program?
I am a recent graduate with a biology major. Although proud of my success, I've graduated with a 2.60 GPA, but I've held a lab job, commuted from home, and participated on the school sports team for the past 4 years. I went to a competitive university and find it sad because compared to my peers I was usually AVERAGE on the curved grading scale, this was usually a C+ letter grade. I wanted to apply for dental school but shortly after my first C, I realized the dream was far out of my reach. 3 years later, I've realized that I either have to change my career of choice or take an alternative route. To start, I'm actually going to pick up extra classes at my university this upcoming school year. The following year, I will be retaking a few classes I didn't do very well in, although they won't contribute to improving my UC GPA, I'm hoping they will still be taken into consideration by dental programs. The 3rd gap year, I will take to finally apply to several school near and far, small and large. On top of all of this, I will be looking for a job as a dental assistant to gain experience and also volunteer and maybe do a medical trip. I want to know if there are any other ways to improve my chances at entering a dental program. At this point, my far off reach goal would be a DDS program and plan B would be a dental hygienist. Please let me know if I should still even try applying, and if so any other ideas of improving my application and how. #dentistry #dental-hygienist #dental-school

If you hold a DMD can you become a dental hygienist?
Im a senior in high school and was interested in the dental field. Im aware to become a general dentist it takes about 8 years minimum as to become a dental hygienist it takes 2 years minimum. I had planned on getting my DMD degree at a university in Nevada, US in a matter of 4 years. For a aspiring Orthodontist/Dentist what course would be reasonable to take, AP Stat or Pre-Calcu?
Today we were given our course registration for next year, which will be my senior year in high school. I'm currently in Algebra II and have the option of taking either AP Statistics or Pre-Calculus H next year. What would you recommend for an aspiring Orthodontist or Dentist? I know that most med schools require one of the two or a semester of Calculus and a semester of Statistics. My two dream colleges are Tufts University and Simmons College. I’m struggling between which of the two to take because my Geometry teacher from last year feels it will be a good fit to take AP Stats, while my Algebra II teacher feels I’ll benefit from pre-calc. I'm a sophomore in high school and I am trying to decide what classes to take. I'm trying to take as many classes as I can if I decide I want to go to a four year school instead of just a two. I'm from Iowa and my biggest decision maker is how much I would make? I've read all over and there are tons of different numbers and job availabilities. I want to live extremely comfortably. I am going for a bachelors degree but I am debating on which one to take. What do you think would be the best choice to a successful future? My heart is leaning more towards Dental Hygienist, however, in the state I currently live in, they do not have enough clinics for dental hygienist so the competition here is really tough.
