I'm a film student interested in editing and I wanted to get a summer job. My plan is to try to have a membership at IATSE 891, to do that I have to first become a Permittee. What career would be right for me?

I am in college but is still indecisive since I'm currently doing pre-nursing but my interests are more about aesthetics in art, photography, and photo editing or something around that. As you see those things don't match up. What career would be good for me? P.S I don't want to be a graduate with a low paying job that is stereotypical rumors with these interests such as photographer or artist. And I am also interest/good in technology such as computers. It sounds like graphic design or something similar but I don't know if I'm/my interest is strong enough to major in that. #college #career #art #graphic-design #photography #editing #digital-photography #aesthetics

If you've ever doubted your ability to do great in your dream career, does that mean that you're not cut out for it or is that completely normal?

I had a bad experience with a terrible former employer who used to belittle me and downplay my work ethic. After that experience, I spent a month reflecting, wondering if I was indeed bad at my job. While I no longer believe the awful things she said to me, sometimes I look back and wonder if I'm weak because I considered myself inferior at one point. #internships #journalism #communications #writing #editing #public-relations

Would it be better for me to major in Journalism or Mass Communications?

I am asking this question because ever since I was a little girl I always wanted to be a magazine editor; however, lately i have been thinking about pursuing a career in broadcast journalism. Also many people who do end up majoring in Journalism have difficulties finding a job, so would majoring in Mass Communications be a better option since it covers media from many different outlets? #journalism #editing #editor #journalist #magazine #reporter

Need help on writing

High school student here not yet sure about their major. I'm not sure if I want to go a major in writing, but I sometimes do like writing random things. And it's really fun just getting ideas out of your head and on to paper. And so I wondered what do I do with those writings? Can I upload them online for people to see and maybe get some profit out of it? And I was wondering if anyone knew how to find editors who can read my writing and basically help me become a better writer? #writing #editing

Is there an "ideal" resume?

I have two resumes: the simple resume looks rather boring to me, as if it was made in high school (which it was!), but the professional resume looks like it has a lot of info that can deter others from reading it. What guidelines should I follow to make sure I don't put too much or too little information, and how can I keep it from looking mediocre? #professional #resume #editing

Is there any advice for someone who might want to be a Youtuber?

Ever since I came to America in 2004, I have been fascinated with the American way of life. Here people don't wait for their dream to happen, they make it happen on the spot. There are Youtubers who have been on YouTube since 2005, but these people never gave up. They kept making videos, and now they are getting deals and living the dream that they wanted. I really started getting into it once I saw the different things I could do. On YouTube you could be a makeup guru, a game guru, a college guru, a fashion guru, a hair guru, even a damn guru guru. Many people say it is stupid to do that, and not everyone could do it, but my question is "Should I try it?" #college #technology #university #tech #film #editing #youtube #video

I have lots of questions about a career in editing

Throughout my high school career, I've worked as editor of our school's annual literary arts magazine, and I absolutely love it, and it has influenced my desire to pursue editing as a career. I'm looking into editing more broadly in a book editing sense, or in a magazine sense, but I would only really be interested in art type magazines, most likely. I'm just worried that I will pursue this career and then get out of school not knowing where to go or what to do with my degree, and I feel like with an English degree, I wouldn't have much to fall back on. I'm going to a small state school in Pennsylvania, and know that jobs would not necessarily be available after school there. What locations are best suited for this type of occupation? I also don't necessarily want to sacrifice a life and a family for my career. Is this the type of career I would have to do that with? #journalism #english #editing #editor
