What about photography?

Hi my name is Yunuelle or you can call me Yun. I'm going to high school next year. So basically I'm thinking about doing photography. My dad is a photographer and I did this one event with him. He also does videos and after I edit them. And I guess you can say I'm good. My favourite part though is editing. Even though it takes forever. But after the event, I wasn't too sure anymore. I also really want to be successful. So my questions are, Is doing photography worth it? Is it good money to have a great life? And what is the most you've traveled?

For quite a while I've been steadily teaching myself how to edit with software such as DaVinci Resolve (best free editing software imo, but it's resource intensive) because I'm interested in video editing and would love to work as an editor out of high school, preferably through freelance work.

How do you know which type of Editor you want to be?

I am thinking of pursuing editing as a career, but I do not know if I should pursue an editing job for magazines, newspapers, or books, or go into advertising. I know advertising is where the money is at, but I love to read. I applied for my school's yearbook class to get some experience, but I don't know how I'm supposed to know which type of editing is right for me.

Should I self publish my book even though I want to be an editor/publisher?

I started writing (and may illustrate) a children's picture book in my spare time. I spoke to a few different professors at my college about it and they all recommended I self publish it for a few reasons: it's faster, I get more control over what the end result looks like, and I would be allowed to use it as my honors component which is a required project of my choice I need to complete for the honors program (I'm ok with doing a different project). However, one of the careers I have been looking at for years is editing and publishing (though I never decided what I would like to edit and publish). I feel like a hypocrite. If I were to apply to a publishing house with a self published book on my resume, would that make me look bad? #editing #publishing #selfpublish #writing #childrensbooks #books

I'm a sophomore in high school and I'm exploring my career options. What are some career options that align with these interests and what are some helpful next steps I can take in the near future?

At school I'm mostly interested in English while my hobbies include writing, criticizing or praising movies and music, photography, and anything that has to do with design or visual art. Topics that intrigue me are politics, debate, and changing the world for the better #arts #film-production #film-acting #film-editing #media-production #filmdirector #director #writer #film #editing #english #career #design

What professions combine an interest in English and Environmental Studies?

I'm slightly more passionate about English than Environmental Studies because I'm not into STEM-heavy subjects and would prefer to not take STEM classes, so on the ES side I'd prefer something related to Environmental Studies instead of Environmental Science. I enjoy the sustainability part of ES or maybe even policy; something that I could see making an impact on the world without being extremely scientific or involving a lot of labs or fieldwork. With English, I enjoy editing most, and would like to be an editor (with no preference for media type). I was thinking maybe something with environmental law, but I don't think I want to get through law school. If I could only choose one subject, I would choose English over ES. Are there any professions that combine my specific interests in these two subjects, besides something like blogging/freelance? #english #english-grammar #environmentalstudies #environmentalscience #sustainability #editing #editor

Where can I develop my writing skills while still making money for college?

I'm fresh out of high school, and I've been writing short, fictional stories for 3+ years now. I've done a bit of research and it seems like all of the quick money is in copywriting, article writing, or editing. I feel like I'm quite skilled at fictional writing, but I have no idea where to start with professional, published article writing. My question is where I can find a way to make a quick buck while developing my writing skills? #writing #journalism #author #writer #college #copywriting #editing #creative-writing

Which is better: continuing to work a job you've grown to dislike because it is advantageous for you career-wise, or finding a new job that you genuinely enjoy?

I've always believed that if you pursue a career you love, then you'll never work a day in your life, so I've followed my dreams and have always planned to pursue my passion, even if it might not result in the most high-paying job. This passion is writing. However, throughout the years, I've discovered that not just any type of writing suits me. I did informal work as a journalist by copywriting for my high school yearbook for my entire four years of high school, and now I’m continuing that type of journalistic work by working as a copy editor and staff writer for my college newspaper. The problem is that I don’t like journalism. I don’t quite hate it, exactly, but I’d much rather be devoting my time and energy into creative writing. I forced myself to do copywriting for all four years of high school even though I disliked it and thought about quitting so many times, mainly because I wanted to have one extracurricular that I had done consistently to put on my college resume. But now that I’m in college, I find myself stuck in the same position—I’m writing for the student newspaper, but I don’t actually like this job because it’s practically identical to my yearbook role. I can’t quite bring myself to just quit so easily because I’ve convinced myself that if I stick with writing for the newspaper for all four years, then it will be good job experience, especially since I want to go into publishing in the future, but do I really want to put myself through yet ANOTHER four years of forcing myself to tough it out in a job that I don’t like? Is it wrong to want to put my mental health and happiness first, even if I know that sticking it out in this job might be more advantageous career-wise? The thing is, I don’t even want to do journalism as my career—I want to work in creative writing or publishing, but I’m trying to be open-minded about all writing opportunities. At the same time, though, I don’t want to get stuck in a career in journalism when that was never what I wanted in the first place. I’m just so stressed and confused about what I should do. When I asked my aunt for advice, she basically told me I was being too naive and that it’s called a “job” or “work” because you’re not SUPPOSED to like what you do in the first place, so she advised me to just stick it out. The whole reason I wanted to pursue a writing job is because I love writing, but the thing is, I’m not enjoying THIS type of writing, and it just makes me think… what was the point of pursuing my passions in the first place if I’m still not happy? Instead of doing journalism, which makes me so unhappy, I might as well have worked toward becoming a doctor or lawyer or something, since I’d be equally as unhappy but they’re higher-paying jobs. I’m a seriously conflicted student in need of career advice. #college #journalism #writing #job #work-life-balance #work #career-advice #help #career-help #advice #technical-writing #creative-writing #publishing #editing #career #following-your-passions #career-counseling #career-choice #career-path #student #career-planning #student-advice #writing-and-editing
