Next fall I am going to college and I want to know what types of activities or goals that I should pursue to make my self a better candidate when I graduate and start looking for a job in my field. Is it appropriate to add work experience in a place you weren't officially employed at in your resume?

My parents own a grocery store, and when I was a young child, I would help by doing simple tasks such as putting away shopping baskets, aiding cashiers with bagging groceries, and bringing shopping carts inside the store. I also worked at the deli section when it first opened and took orders from customers to send to the cooks in the back room (I was still not officially employed and was 13 years old). I am wondering if it is appropriate or not relevant to one's resume. Thank you. #career #job #resume #work #employment #working

Besides a high GPA, what extracurricular or activities do the big 4 firms like to see?

As an accounting major, my target dream employer is of course the big 4 firms. I was told recently that grades are the first thing that they look at before even considering everything else, so I am shifting gear to focus on that. However, I am now wondering what sort of extracurricular or activities will help me become a more appealing candidate to these firms. #accounting #employment #college-recruiting #cpa #big-4

How long did it take until you got your first job during high school? Or did you at all? Is the moment to get a first job during high school or post secondary?

I'm a senior in high school and due to my poor availability times, I haven't been able to get a job since grade 10. I'm still as involved in extra curricular activities since then. I feel a little bit intimidated by the many part time workers in my school. I have yet to get a job and I feel like I'm at a disadvantage with no job experience. I know I have all the qualifications to do so though. Given my circumstances, I know I can wait, but I feel behind. #job-search #employment

When you're fresh out of college is it best to work for a while, travel, or go straight to Grad school?

I'm curious about the current state of the job market as it pertains to the hiring rate of students fresh out of college with their first Bachelor's degree. Do most employers favor new grads who've worked while in school? If so, how do students who have little work experience due to being committed full-time to their education go out and get jobs after graduating? Also, from the perspective of grad schools, do they prefer students fresh out of undergrad or is it best to work for a year or two before applying to grad schools so your resume is more substantial? Do they care about your resume or just your academic track record? #graduate-school #college-admissions #job-search #college-jobs #recruiting #hiring #employment #job-market #job-application

How to naturally navigate a conversation with employers during career fair?

I have attended my first career fair as a freshman last fall. I prepared myself by searching about the main firms that I am interested in. However, after introducing myself, I was struggling to naturally ask questions about the company like their stocks and current events that I have researched about. The whole experience was a bit awkward and disappointing. Thus, for this spring's career fair, I hope to be better prepared. Do you have any tips to be less awkward and have a flowing conversation with employers? #career-counseling #communications #career-development #employment #career-advice
