I'm a chemical engineering graduate and I hate this degree. I've always wanted to be a doctor and even after doing well at school, i was unable to get a place to study medicine. Now I'm stuck with this degree and I dont know what to do. Please help.

I initially chose chemical engineering as I thought that I could get into the pharmaceutical engineering side of the industry and I knew that they were sought after in the finance sector. Unfortunately my applications haven't worked out and there's no scope for chem eng in pharmaceuticals in my country. The idea of working on a chemical plant away from the city in overalls isn't for me and I know I screwed up really badly and i feel like a complete failure. I'm also not in a financial position where I can study another degree. I want to help people and not be stuck in a job because the money is good but my happiness is minimal. #engineering #chemical-engineering #medicine #healthcare #college #hospital-and-health-care

Am I making the right choice with my major?

My name is Briana and I am a college freshman. I have recently finished my first semester and am confused. I had previously asked about possible major options, and had thought I was sure, but there's all types of doubts that come up with each choice. I had talked with one of the career advisors on campus, and he more or less directed me with psychology like I had mentioned. Whenever I have the chance, I'll take a personality/career quiz that usually ends up with scientist or psychologist. Now i have and am still considering psychology as a possible career, but I feel, and my mom has noticed too, that it may be a means of obsessing over past events (i.e. bullying). Considering my "experiences", is it healthy for me to continue focusing on something through these means? Aside from money and interest, my second option may be related to math, engineering, and art. Before I choose my classes for the next semester, I will talk with a counselor about any future plans. All I ask from anyone responding is a new perspective regarding if I'm being too emotional in what should be a rational decision. Thank you to anyone who responds and I wish you all happy holidays! #engineering #psychology #college-major #mathematics #japan #animation #choosing-a-major #computer-animation #first-generation

What is a "day in the life of a software engineer" typically like?

I'm a second year computer science major in college, and I'm curious as to what a typical day of a software engineer is like. Do you usually work by yourself coding for 8 hours a day, or are you working together with other engineers to program something? #computer-science #computer-software #engineering #software-engineering #software-development

What are some ways to improve creative problem solving skills?

It's important to be creative if you want to be accomplished in engineering and I'd like to really start developing the mindset. The other day my teacher showed me a game she used called Disruptus in which you look at cards with ideas or object and try to innovate something new based off of them after rolling a die. I was wondering what strategies others were using to keep themselves inventive. What gets your creative juices flowing? Thanks! #engineering

Interships which ones are right for you?

Hi , my name is Demetrio i'm a current undergad student at devry university im majoring in Network systems Administrator and would like to express some useful thought to those who dont have a clue about how to gain experience in your field that will be suitable in the future so, If you're a college student and wish to pursue your career further what are some places you might attend to gain experience? Well Basically if you're looking for experience a good way is to look for specific intern ships that are relevant to your field, such as it is always a good idea to get entry level jobs that post to your career as a stepping stone. So to add to that i would also like to mention that getting certified in things that are relevant to your field helps a lot to get your foot in the door, from what i heard most companies only care if you posses such certification without always asking what you know about it. So some things to look at are , in indeed for internships or even events that could allow you to network with people in your field. #college #internships #network #entrylevel #engineering #administrators #networking

Which colleges/universities should I apply to?

I live in California, and I am reluctant to go too far for college. I would like to stay relatively close to home, so I can visit my parents and come back home without having to travel too far. I'm interested in computer science and psychology, and I would like to do something in one of those fields. What kind of criteria should I be looking for in a college? Should I pick a college that is closer to home but may not be as academically rigorous as one that is further away? #college #engineering #career #science #psychology #computer #university

How important is GPA in college?

I am a sophomore in college, and the classes I have been taking have been pretty tough. I'm always studying to try to stay ahead of the curve, and the professors usually give harder tests that warrant lower averages. In the field that I am interested in (Computer Science), I have doing well, but cumulatively, some of grades I have gotten have been Bs and Cs (in classes such as Chemistry and Physics), and as a result, it has lowered my GPA significantly. Should I try harder to get a higher GPA, or should I just continue to work hard, but focus more on CS related projects? #college #engineering #science #computer #gpa

Is it beneficial to show evidence of branching out in my career and expanding upon my future career options by minoring in a field different from my major?

I am planning on entering college as a bioengineering major, though that is subjective to change depending on the college. However, I was wondering whether it would be beneficial for me to apply with a business, political science, or history minor to add more to my resume and degree. It would add more time for me to graduate with my undergraduat degree, but I am willing to do it if it will help me with getting a job or getting accepted into a graduate school later. #college #business #engineering #career #college-major #graduate-school #stem #political-science

To what extent does being a woman interested in a STEM field benefit or disadvantage me in terms of college admissions and later career opportunities?

I am asking this question because I am interested in entering a STEM field. I am currently undecided on the major I want to go into in college, though I know that it will be in a STEM field. I want to be aware of the opportunities that will come along with my choices to go into a STEM field, and whether I will have the advantage as a woman when it comes to college admissions and financial aid. Furthermore, I want to know to what extent being a woman will help or hinder me when it comes time to find a job. Because STEM fields are those that are traditionally male-oriented, I want to know how breaking that boundary will help or hinder my ability to get a job and be taken seriously as a woman in STEM. #college #engineering #career #science #college-admissions #stem #admissions #women
