Opportunities for data scientists?

I am a college student majoring in Environmental Science. I'm considering adding a second major of Data Science. However, I am wondering how many opportunities there are for data scientists that are not working for just any large company to help them maximize profits. For example, are there opportunities for data science in the renewable energy field, such as using data to problem solve/ figure out how to transition to renewable energy or similar topics? I am interested in environmental-related things but also any other interesting/ meaningful application of data science that I may not be aware of. Thank you for your time.

How do I narrow down focus on a career if I want to work in environmental science but also study how to mitigate its effects on society (environmental justice)?

I am a rising senior in high school and I am trying to figure out where I should apply to college and what career path I should pursue. I know I have time to decide what major, but I feel the need to focus my activities and classes on a more specific topic so my effort can go further in helping people. How do you choose between a career path that you love, and a career path that you feel is important.

I am a junior in high school, and I'm not sure if i want to pursue a career in art, or in environmental conservation. Art is something I've always been good at and enjoy, but I'm also interested in nature and love the outdoors. Environmental careers seem like they're more important to me, but I'm not sure which direction to take and if my goals in that field are realistic. What are some ways you can build confidence in public speaking, specifically for teaching?

I have around 7 years experience (or so) in tutoring, and I am pretty comfortable educating individuals and very small groups. However, I am considering pursuing an educators license and becoming a science teacher. I am not very confident in speaking in front of a group of more than 5 people at a time, I have tried classes, workshops and working individually with my professors to attempt to get better at this skill with no success. Are there other ways to boost confidence in this skill? Is this just an issue that will eventually get better in time? Are there teachers and professors on the site that had problems with public speaking but overcame them? If so, how? Thank you! #public-speaking #teacher-training #professor #teacher #environmental-science

Does having experience outside of your preferred career field do anything to you?

I do not have a lot of experience (job or otherwise) in the field that I am currently pursuing, however I do have experience in areas such as working in a museum, teaching and working in the arts (glass blowing, painting, sewing..). Is there anyway to incorporate those skills in the environmental field? Can I place these as skills I have on my resume? Thank you! #environmental-science #experience #resume-writing #museums #art

How do you think the increasing environmental issues of the planet will impact the field of environmental science and studies?

I have been interested in studying the environment since my freshman year in high school when I took my first environmental biology class and wonder how the ever increasing issues that the environment today is facing will end up changing various parts of the study. For example, job availability, wages, areas of study, and every day requirements or jobs of a person in the field of environmental studies or science. #environmental-science #environmental #environmental-engineering #environmental-services

I'm currently a Biology, Wildlife&Conservation Science, and Film major. Should I switch to engineering, computers, or something along those lines?

I'm currently a Biology, Wildlife&Conservation Science, and Film major. I'm mildly regretting not majoring in computer science, engineering, or something along those lines, but I'm already a junior. I'm performing poorly in my classes lately...I'm a smart person, I've just been unmotivated and bored. The Film classes are super fun, but I keep looking back and wished I had done engineering, physics, or something like that. It's something I've been second guessing since I did it, and that can't be a good sign, but I'm at a loss for what to do to figure it out. #computer-science #engineering #science #biology #mechanical-engineering #biotechnology #environmental-science #wildlife-biology

What opportunities are there for integrating environmental science with GIS?

I'm graduating in December of 2022 with a BA in Environmental Studies and a certification in ArcGIS from a GIS semester course, however, I really want to pursue some sort of career integrating GIS and natural disasters whether it's mapping them, studying flood plains, etc. I'm wondering if there are companies focusing on the environmental implications of GIS that perform some of these interests. #environmental #environmental-science #arcGIS #GIS #science #career

How Did You Figure Out What Your Dream Job Was?

I'm a high school senior who has wanted to be a veterinarian ever since middle school, but after shadowing every veterinarian in my area, I realized that I did not want to be a veterinarian anymore. Since then, I have changed my "career path" numerous times. I thought I wanted to be a wildlife biologist, a photographer, a dancer, a choreographer, a systems architect, a lawyer, an environmentalist, a teacher, a surgeon, and more. I just can't decide on anything and due to the fact that I have my 2-year AA degree (through PSEO) my generals are all completed so I really only need to do 2 more years of college for my intended major, but I don't know what it is yet. Any advice would be appreciated! #stressed #help #veterinarian #dance #choreography #wildlife-biology #environmental-science #systemsarchitect #surgeon #teacher #lawyer #photography #pseo
