How much would college in a foreign country affect my academics?

I had a friend who was a foreign-exchange student in my high school and I would love to go to college in her country. Their culture and customs are very intriguing to me and I would love to have firsthand experience but wouldn't want to if I would have too many issues learning. I would be going to Norway. #foreign-exchange #foreign-languages #environmental-science

Would you recommend pursuing grad school for someone who wants to work with animals in the wild or in conservatories?

I want to either research animals in the wild, or work with injured or endangered animals in a conservatory. Do you think I could pursue this with an undergrad degree in biology or zoology, or would I need to continue on to grad school? #science #biology #research #animals #environmental-science #zoology #animal-conservation #animal-science

All my life I have longed to protect nature, but what careers would allow me to do this?

I have never been a confident speaker, nor have I ever desired learning about laws or policies, but I love to be outside working with my hands. If I have a BS in Psychology, can I apply for a Master's in Ecology?

I am a US citizen living in Australia, I have been out of school for 2 1/2 years, and I would like to go back to school to earn a masters in Ecology or a related field. I would like to know if this is possible in the USA, but I want to go to school in Central Europe. Would a foreign school in Austria or Germany accept me for an ecology program if my Bachelor's is in a different scientific field. #science #graduate-school #ecology #study-abroad #Austria #Germany #environmental-science #masters #Europe

What are some of the best ways to network as a student?

I am attempting to make my presence known, I guess, outside of my university and connect with different groups that I think perhaps I would like to work for. What are some of the best ways to do this? Are there specific events that would be better for me as an environmental science major? Is networking outside of your preferred field okay? Thank you! #networking #social-networking #environmental-science

What are some ways you can build confidence in public speaking, specifically for teaching?

I have around 7 years experience (or so) in tutoring, and I am pretty comfortable educating individuals and very small groups. However, I am considering pursuing an educators license and becoming a science teacher. I am not very confident in speaking in front of a group of more than 5 people at a time, I have tried classes, workshops and working individually with my professors to attempt to get better at this skill with no success. Are there other ways to boost confidence in this skill? Is this just an issue that will eventually get better in time? Are there teachers and professors on the site that had problems with public speaking but overcame them? If so, how? Thank you! #public-speaking #teacher-training #professor #teacher #environmental-science

What are some careers should I research?

My plan right now is go to a junior college for two years, get an AA, then either go to a local (CA) university or state school and take part in an exchange program to France, or directly sign up for university in France. The reason why I am focused on France, is because I really love the French language and wish to pursue it further. I am currently in my third year of French at my high school, and next school year I will be in my fourth. I'm not exactly sure what I want to major in, but some of my ideas are Environmental Science, Linguistics, and Psychology. For career wise, I really want to work with people, but I am having trouble thinking of future careers that might actually interest me. #psychology #career-counseling #career-choice #environmental-science #french #linguistics

How Did You Figure Out What Your Dream Job Was?

I'm a high school senior who has wanted to be a veterinarian ever since middle school, but after shadowing every veterinarian in my area, I realized that I did not want to be a veterinarian anymore. Since then, I have changed my "career path" numerous times. I thought I wanted to be a wildlife biologist, a photographer, a dancer, a choreographer, a systems architect, a lawyer, an environmentalist, a teacher, a surgeon, and more. I just can't decide on anything and due to the fact that I have my 2-year AA degree (through PSEO) my generals are all completed so I really only need to do 2 more years of college for my intended major, but I don't know what it is yet. Any advice would be appreciated! #stressed #help #veterinarian #dance #choreography #wildlife-biology #environmental-science #systemsarchitect #surgeon #teacher #lawyer #photography #pseo

Do political and industrial motives significantly influence the types of research conducted by Geophysicists and the impacts of the results they find?

I have always been interested in the environment and especially in geology. The amount of information that an experienced geologist can deduce from aspects of the local strata and environment is amazing to me, and I want to use that information to help people live safely and harmoniously with our natural environment. Unfortunately, it has been difficult for me to find a career that allows me to fulfill that dream. I have talked to a few people who quit working at environmental consulting firms because political interests were so much more potent in influencing company decisions than pure scientific research was. My moral code would not allow me to work in situations like that. I hope that Geophysics will have less political influence because of the emphasis on more theoretical mathematics and physics-based research applied to broader subjects like plate tectonics and seismology, but I know that the research still has practical applications and could be affected by political or industrial motives. #physics #environmental-science #earth-science #geology #geophysics

Any tips for the environmental sciences ?

Hi, I'm currently majoring in biology in college but plan to switch to environmental earth sciences systems with a concentration in environmental sciences and ecology. I don't know anyone in this field and want to learn more about it. What do people with this degree do? What does the job market look like? How did you get your first job/internship specifically in the earth sciences? Any tips for young people trying to break into this career? Should I be wary that earth sciences are a less popular major? Thank you! :)

How do you choose between a career path that you love, and a career path that you feel is important.

I am a junior in high school, and I'm not sure if i want to pursue a career in art, or in environmental conservation. Art is something I've always been good at and enjoy, but I'm also interested in nature and love the outdoors. Environmental careers seem like they're more important to me, but I'm not sure which direction to take and if my goals in that field are realistic.
