Should I focus on academics or extracurricular activities?

I will start a one year graduate program this fall. I am also active as a volunteer and leader in several organizations that match my interests and later career goals. If my academic responsibilities and my responsibilities due to my positions in these organizations conflict, can it make sense to let my grades slip slightly to keep performing well in volunteer positions that might help secure jobs and connections that are relevant for my later career? Or should I prioritize keeping my grades up? #college #extracurriculars #studying #grades #volunteer #jobs

What college extracurriculars should I focus on?

I'm starting college in the fall and am wondering what type of extracurriculars I should do. I'm aware of the many types that my school offers but I want to know how my time would be best spent as a pre-med student. I will of course do what I find enjoyable but I also want to know of any extracurriculars that strengthen my resume. #pre-med #college-advice #extracurriculars #time-management

How much extracurricular work is too much?

Graduate classes + a (mandatory) internship + a job = Too much? My graduate program requires me to work an internship. My financial situation requires me to work another job. But after the homework, the interning, and the work days -- will I miss out on school organizations, meetings, conferences, and lectures? How do I know that I'll have enough time for everything? How do I manage my time appropriately? I want to make a grad school network -- but what if I'm too busy doing everything outside of school? #extracurriculars #worried #internship #job #workstudy #organization #timemanagement

Advice for extracurricular activities?

I am going to a four-year college in the fall, and I want to participate in extracurricular activities. I know it will look better on my college resume, and possibly open up the door for more scholarships However, I have panic disorder and am not very good around large groups of people. I am not a very athletic person, but I am good at art. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! #college #art #extracurriculars #scholarships

Is it too late to be involved in extracurricular activities HS Junior Year?

I remember when I was just an upcoming freshman at my high school and I was eager to get involved with my school and the community around me. However... I'm getting more and more stressed out on one area where colleges/universities like to see in their applications: extracurriculars. I haven't been doing any extracurriculars, such as participating in clubs or doing volunteer work for almost 2 years. Right now I'm in the middle of my Sophomore year of high school and I feel I should've taken earlier action, and to think it would be weird to just participate in something all of a sudden in the middle of the school year when I should've just done so in the beginning. The thing is that I have been so caught up with my academics that I hardly considered time to do the activities I am passionate about or to even find out on more things that I could be interested in. I've also looked at the application process of the schools I want to get into and by the looks of it, it seems pretty complicating. My dream school is to go to UC Irvine but other schools are definitely worth considering. I just want to at least get into the UCs but the competitiveness is something I'm not ready to endure yet. #college-admissions #extracurriculars #uci

How do I effectively balance my classes, extra-curricular activities, and new life as a freshman in college?

I plan on going into college optimistically, as I wish to make the most of my new path in life. However, starting an entirely new life in unfamiliar territory away from home, I wonder if there is a certain mindset or routine I could use to adapt to my new situation. I plan on taking rigorous classes pertaining to mathematics and computer science, while at the same time getting involved with new sports and volunteering opportunities regarding tutoring around campus. If I plan on getting immediately active, is there a way I can effectively balance the activities I want to do with the classes I will have to do without sacrificing sleep and sanity? #extracurriculars #work-life-balance

Should high school students be focused on doing extracurricular activities based off of what they would want to major in college?

I need help with my extracuricular activities!

Okay so highschool has started and I'm not apart of anything. I'm not in band, orchestra, sports team, theater or anything else. Club rush is coming up and I'm planning on joining a few clubs and being on the academic decathlon team. But, I feel like if I only join clubs in highschool the next four years then I'll suffer on my college applications. I don't enjoy sports at all and I don't play an instrument. I don't know what to do because I feel so lost and confused. Another concern that I have is that I feel like I'm behind compared to others. Like if I only join clubs and another person I'm competing against is on a sports team, in band, and apart clubs then they have a better chance in getting into a good school. #college #sports #school #college-admissions #extracurriculars #high-school-classes

What extracuricular activities/volunteering should I do in Highschool?

Hey there! So, I'm going to become a freshman in a few days and I'm really lost on what I should do with my extracuricular activities/volunteering. I'm not apart of a sports team because I do not enjoy sports like others. And I'm not apart of a program (AVID, Theater, Sport Teams, etc.). What I do know although is that I really want to join clubs such as the Red Cross Club, UNICEF, National Honors Society, etc. I also want to join the Academic Decathlon Team as well. I'm also planning on making my own club my sophomore year called Education is Not A Crime Club. I am also joining ROP Medical Classes offered at our school. But, I still feel like I'm not doing enough. I had a 4.0 GPA in both years of middle school with 3 honors classes (Language Arts, Social Studies, Science). I am also enrolled in Honors Language Arts, Spanish 2 Honors, and Biology Honors my Freshman year. Any tips on what I should do? #college #teacher #high-school #extracurriculars #student-clubs

With a busy after school schedule what are some things that stand out in college applications that are not school affiliated?

It's a well known fact that colleges look for many extracurricular activities while viewing an individual's application. At my school I am involved with the drama club and due to the intense schedule of productions, whenever I have free time in the year it is at an awkward time (only December, May, and June) and I cannot easily join clubs I had no affiliation with before. I am attending the University of Washington this upcoming fall and will be majoring in biochemistry. My goal is to get accepted into med school in the future which obviously requires many extracurricular activities and volunteer work.
