Does Junior High Spanish count towards one year of foreign language for colleges?

Some colleges I know recommend four years of a foreign language in high school, but does that mean all four years or just up to the fourth level of a language (spanish 4)? #foreign-languages

Technology, International, French language, where does it all fit together?

I have only ever worked in the IT field since I was in High school. I am getting an international degree with a focus in MIS Global IT leadership and Management. I learned intermediate level French in France and Canada. I can finish my degree in December; or I can postpone it a semester and go back to France to learn more French. I am still feeling lost on where I can go from here. the world is in a chaotic state right now and I could just spend the next few years abroad doing my own thing; learning a new language. or I could take advantage and try to set myself up for the future. but I'm not sure where I want to work, or what specifically I want to do. I want to do something abroad; I love interacting with new people, new cultures, and learning new things. Are there any industries/countries that are starting to surface that you're seeing; that would be worth taking a look into? #technology #international #foreign-Languages #business #grad #postgrad #help #thinkTank #abroad

What colleges offer anti-human trafficking courses or I guess degrees?

I'm a high school student currently and already know I want to put my life on the line in different developing countries and stop human trafficking. I want to go to college and be able to directly progress in this field but have no idea what colleges offer the best programs for prepping to be in this field one day. They all always make it sound like they are well-rounded in every field but I want to know colleges who have well-developed, strong classes pertaining to human trafficking. Any information anyone can give me would make me very appreciative #human-trafficking #college #college-majors #foreign-countries #foreign-languages #foreign #save-children #college-courses

Will these college classes work during admissions?

In my high school it is not required to take a foreign language class to graduate, so as I am ending my junior year I have never taken any. Unfortunately, most colleges I want to apply to require two years of a foreign language to apply. There is a dual credit program between my high school and a local community college. At the community college they have both a French 1 and French 2 course. The only issue is, they cram it in and each course is only a semester long. Will this work as the two-year requirement for admissions since it two levels of the language or am I out of luck? As a senior next year, is there anything I can do to get these two years? #college-admissions #requirements #foreign-languages

Is it possible to learn scientific terms in another language while studying science in English?

I am already bilingual (speak English and Spanish), but my Spanish-speaking abilities still lie a lot more on the informal/conversational side rather than formal/technical. I know that just knowing another language will benefit me no matter what, but I feel that it won't help me as much in my career unless I can actually speak professionally in either language. Is there a feasible way of learning the new terms in Spanish alongside the English ones without feeling like I'm overloading my brain? Or should I leave that more for outside the school year/after graduating? #science #stem #women-in-stem #language #foreign-languages #study #studying #studying-tips

What are some careers available in social justice and social activism for immigration? Do I have to become an immigration lawyer to help?

I'm currently a high school senior on my way to college. And immigration is a topic I'm passionate about. I'm very interested in pursuing a career in social justice that will improve and impact the lives of immigrants living within our country. I know that many people tend to pursue careers in immigration law. But I was wondering if there are any other careers outside of law that could help the cause. I'm not sure if I have what it takes to become a lawyer. I also love math and foreign languages. So, what would be a good language to learn if I were to go into immigration, besides Spanish? (I'm bilingual.) Thanks! #immigration #immigration-law #social-work #social-justice #foreign-languages #activism #activists #non-profit #humanitarian #human-rights rights

Are foreign language degree considered "useless?"

I love foreign languages. I'm already bilingual. (I speak Spanish fluently.) It's my dream to become a polyglot. In college, I'm certain I want to either minor or major in a foreign language. I'm particularly interested in learning Japanese, but I'm also considering Arabic or Russian. The problem is I'm worried about being able to find a job outside of teaching with my degree. (I don't think I have what it takes to become a teacher.) People have warned me about the dangers of a liberal arts degree, and have suggested that I avoid pursuing a degree in liberal arts and humanities. However, I do love math. In the future, I'm thinking about pursuing a career in immigration law or international business. I'm not really sure. But would a foreign language degree on it's own be considered "useless?" Would I need to find an additional field to major or minor in in order to launch a successful career with a foreign language degree? #foreign-languages #careers-for-people-with-liberal-arts-degrees #japanese #bachelorsdegree #arabic #russian ##spanish
