Would a major in Strategic Communications with a Business minor or a major in Marketing be best for a career in business?

I'm ending my second year in college and am having trouble with my major. I haven't necessarily decided on one yet. I'm deciding if I should do Strategic Communications with a Business minor or apply to the business school and do Marketing. I'm planning on applying no matter what but I would have to decide which route to take by July 2020 (when I would find out if I got into the business school or not). If I go with marketing, I would definitely have to do another year of college and would be behind/may struggle in difficult classes. If I do strategic communications, I would be on track for 4 years but still be catching up. My future career interests seem to center around the business world and I see myself best with the marketing area. I don't have a good idea of what exactly I want to do, but I want to be involved with business. This being said, which would be the best major route for me to pursue? #business #marketing #college-major #college #entrepreneur #major #communications #comm #stratcomm #career #future #college-major

Should I take classes that I enjoy or ones that will help me in the future?

At my school, we can take special classes out of the school, like nursing prep, horticulture, culinary, etc. that I'm interested in. I'm torn between multiple though, Culinary, Horticulture, Agriculture, and Educational Careers. Would it be smarter to take the class that will be more beneficial to me in the future, or should I take one that I enjoy that will make my high school more enjoyable? As of now, I think I want to be a teacher and horse trainer/riding instructor, so educational careers or agriculture would probably be the most beneficial, but I also love plants and cooking, so those would probably make my days better and more enjoyable. This also goes for classes in the school. For example, math. I don't think I'd be a math teacher if I do become a teacher, but I'm pretty good at math and am in the fast-pace math. I'll probably stay in it, but I doubt I'd need much of the more high-level math in my future, so should I take it easy and take the slower one or challenge myself and take the fast-pace one?

For anyone who has made a successful career change, what were the most important things you had to do, or what advice would you give others looking to do the same?

I'm a current college student, so I haven't officially started my career yet, but I'm extremely anxious about doing so, especially now that the pandemic has changed life as we know it. I've changed my career aspirations several times already, but now I'm nearing graduation and I'm still terrified that I'll wind up in a career I don't enjoy. Whether you ended up changing careers because you were dissatisfied or because you found better opportunities in another field, I'm really interested in hearing the experiences of professionals who have been in a situation like me. How did you overcome your worries, and what advice would you give to someone else? #career #career-counseling #careers #career-advice #future #career-options #college #college-student #graduation #career-change #career-switch #career-changes #career-switches #advice #july #july20 #scholarship

How to bounce back from failure when you have depression ?

For most of my life, I’ve been a pretty good student. People always expected me to get into Ivy League but I went to SUNY instead. The work load is easy for me but after getting severe depression and anxiety, my grades have plummeted and I lost all my financial aid after appeal. I feel like I've gone backwards while everyone is moving forward. How do I gain back my confidence and my future? How do you balance a hobby you love with a career that can support you?

I am about to be a junior at a High school in New York, and most people are expecting me to know what I want my future career path to be. However, for the longest time, I have been on the fence on what I should be doing because the career path I want isn't the most guaranteed to give me a steady salary (Art). However, the career that most people believe I should pursue doesn't really make me excited for my future. I was hoping to get advice that could help me reason out my future. Thanks!

Is my career choice a good decision?

I'm only a freshman in high school, so I am able to change my decision, but I think this is probably what I want to do. I just wanted some more peoples' opinions about it, whether I should minor in something else as a backup plan or something. So, my plan is to major in an equine degree in college, probably Equine Studies unless there is a better one offered. After college, I really want to have my own farm for people to board their horses and be a horse trainer and a riding instructor. Do you think I'll be making enough to have a good and comfortable life? I don't know if I want to have kids yet, and if I do I'll probably only want one or two, so do you think I'd be able to provide for them (if they exist) and myself, plus a SO? Also, how long do you think it would take to build that business after college? I would have to buy the land/house/barn(s), make sure fencing was good, and that would be a lot of money alone. I also don't know where I would want to live, so any ideas of where would be the most beneficial/cost efficient/best overall would be great. I've always wanted to work with horses, in Kindergarten when they ask you what you want to be, I said a Cowgirl. I showed and rode for a few years, but it was expensive and the horses I used weren't great (one was too old and the other went lame), so I've had to stop, and since then it's been my goal to make a life with horses. I also wanted to be a teacher for a while. I think this is what I really want to do. Are there any other little jobs I could do to make extra money if I need? Preferably including horses or teaching? Sorry this is so long, but any answers would be amazing!

Could I make my passion my career?

Ok so I am currently 16 and I have always loved music and had a secret dream become a singer but only to preform, not to become famous or anything. Anyways over the years my thoughts about music have been taken over by school but when I was 14 I discovered Broadway, and my passion is stronger than ever. I have been told that I have a talent for singing and acting and that I'm good at dancing (I have a nice voice and I cant make very clear and expressive facial expressions). But I never believed them because I always tell myself "it's not enough, its not enough to peruse a career". Yet it is still my dream and I am still motivated to make it a reality. I have started vocal classes, I plan to (and hope to) go to the Boston conservatory for musical arts if I get in (even though I will have to cover myself financially), I do multiple musical theater classes and I am planning to continue this and expand my capacity. However deep down I still have that thought that I wont make it. That I'm not good enough and it is a hard and risky career. My parents believe that as well. My father always supported me but he said that I have almost no chance of making Broadway (btw he has never seen me preform). Not only that but I live internationally meaning I have to move to a different continent (which I have no problem with but still). I have days where I truly believe that it will always stay a dream and other days where I believe that I can do it. I would love to get someone else's opinion, if they believe you need pure talent to get into the musical industry of if it is a mix of hard work and talent. What do you think? Could I make it with only motivation, passion and hard work ? #music #career #art #future
