I will be starting my MPH in epidemiology in the fall and I do not have much money. My entire education has been self funded. I am very interested in being a field epidemiologist and do more hands on work. I have seen some great summer programs where students can go to developing countries and help with relief efforts. The only set back is that I don't have the money to pay out of pocket for these trips. I really want to help as much as I can. I already volunteer at two local agencies and I am with a public health group on campus. What are some ways to get funding in order to travel abroad, and are there study abroad programs for Masters of Public Health students? Thanks! #epidemiology #public-health #mph #graduate-school #masters-degree

Preparing for grad school in Epidemiology
I am a second-year college student interested in getting a Ph.D. in Epidemiology. Is this a good field to go into? I am a US citizen living in Australia, I have been out of school for 2 1/2 years, and I would like to go back to school to earn a masters in Ecology or a related field. I would like to know if this is possible in the USA, but I want to go to school in Central Europe. In your personal opinion, is it better to do research with a company or a university? Why?
I know that I want to be a researcher. I have been thinking about neurology, but I know it will be in the biological field. I am just unsure about whether or not I want to work as a professor at a university or a scientist at a company. I know there are pros and cons to both. My father is a professor and he is always writing grants, plus he has to teach. My mother works with a company and she does not get ownership of her own patents and discoveries (as the company uses them however they see fit), plus there is a possibility for pressure to bias the data. I just want more insight to consider each career path with. #college #science #graduate-school #research #laboratory

How do I know if studying abroad is for me?
I have never traveled alone or been away from my family for more than a few weeks. However, I love to travel and I am considering getting a degree in Europe or Australia. These programs are also so much cheaper than USA programs and have less requirements. Yet, I am worried that I might feel 'culture' shock as their educational systems are quite different from USA. #college #graduate-school #college-bound #travel #study-abroad #academic-advising
