How important are extra-curricular activities and like student clubs, volunteering etc to getting into med school? I'm a bit worried because in my first year of university I just focused on school and didn't join any clubs yet.
Yeah like the title says, I feel a bit behind the curve because although I have a good GPA from my first year, my resume and professional life are kind of lacking in regards to some of my peers. I do plan on volunteering and trying to get coop jobs this summer and of course later on in university, I'm just worried that my application will be worse because I chose to focus on school only in my first year.

When should psychology majors looking to pursue a Ph.D. program plan to enter said program?
I'm currently a freshman psychology major, but I want to start planning early for what I want to do upon graduating with my bachelors. I'd like to become a psychology professor and researcher. I've heard a number of different options for this...1.) You can attend a grad program straight out of your undergrad, 2.) You can go get your masters degree in between undergrad and your Ph.D., or 3.) You can take 2 years or so to work as a research assistant before your Ph.D. program in order to gain paid experience. Is one of these paths more ideal than the others? Does it vary by person and what they plan to do with their Ph.D.? #psychology #graduate-school #college-admissions #research #graduate-programs

Letters of Recommendation
I have just started my grad school application for Genetic Counseling but am not very confident regarding the 3 letters of recommendation I need to gather. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and my own social anxiety, I have had a hard time making any connections with professors. Classes have around 300 students so they have little to no memory of me. I've e-mailed the grad program about if letters of recommendations from my supervisor at work could be considered (currently an HR intern). I have also reached out to a professor I recently had last Spring. Is there anything else you would recommend for me to do?

When you're fresh out of college is it best to work for a while, travel, or go straight to Grad school?
I'm curious about the current state of the job market as it pertains to the hiring rate of students fresh out of college with their first Bachelor's degree. Do most employers favor new grads who've worked while in school? If so, how do students who have little work experience due to being committed full-time to their education go out and get jobs after graduating? Also, from the perspective of grad schools, do they prefer students fresh out of undergrad or is it best to work for a year or two before applying to grad schools so your resume is more substantial? Do they care about your resume or just your academic track record? #graduate-school #college-admissions #job-search #college-jobs #recruiting #hiring #employment #job-market #job-application

I'm an undergraduate right now, and I've heard it's essential to have lab experience to get into Ph.D programs. What kinds of things should I put on a resume to get accepted into these labs?
