Is it beneficial to show evidence of branching out in my career and expanding upon my future career options by minoring in a field different from my major?

I am planning on entering college as a bioengineering major, though that is subjective to change depending on the college. However, I was wondering whether it would be beneficial for me to apply with a business, political science, or history minor to add more to my resume and degree. It would add more time for me to graduate with my undergraduat degree, but I am willing to do it if it will help me with getting a job or getting accepted into a graduate school later. #college #business #engineering #career #college-major #graduate-school #stem #political-science

Does research at the collegiate level satisfy the search for beauty and excitement that science lovers are looking for?

I have heard that the road to becoming a professor is long and grueling and like any journey, you have to jump through a lot of hoops and do a lot of grunt-work to achieve your end goal. Does the research that graduate students and post-docs do satisfy their quest for knowledge? In other words, is the research you get to do exciting? Is it what you expected it would be going in? When you finally do become a professor, do you have more freedom over your research than you did as a grad student/post-doc? Is your research as a professor exciting and fulfilling? #college #graduate-school #research #professors

If I take a Biology course, how to I transfer that to a Marine Biology course and have many Minors?

I'm a small town senior getting ready to graduate and I don't really have anyone to help me prepare for college. I know I have to get a bachelors in Biology and then somehow 'specialize' in Marine but I also want to major in oceanography and engineering. I want to get my PhD so that I can research on my own but don't know how to get there. #college #college-major #biology #graduate-school #architecture #marine-biology #college-minor #oceanography

Is a Masters degree useful in the world of optics?

I am trying to decide if I should ask about going for my doctorate next fall. I am currently working on my masters and taking the same courses as a PhD student in optical sciences would. I am trying to assess the benefits of getting my masters if my plan is to eventually get a PhD in the same field. #graduate-school #doctorate-degree #masters-degree #optics #science #career-counseling

Research Degree

Do all research degrees (MPhil/PhD or combined tracks) require the GRE In the USA? Assuming that I do not take the GRE can I get admitted into the programmes? I am currently in a difficult financial situation, I am already considering not enrolling in universities that require me to re-do my English language exams simply because I would be spending additional money. I have been accepted into programmes in the UK, cGPA 3.2/4, British equivalence 2(i) but I was told it will mostly depend on the universities that I apply to. So far I have been accepted by UCL, Nottingham, Sheffield, Westminers, Glasgow. #career #medicine #biology #university #career-counseling #graduate-school #biotechnology #science-phd

How to begin to shadow?

Hello, I am a pre-med student (freshman in college) and I am really worried about not being able to gain shadowing experience because whenever I ask someone how they shadowed they're like "My parents know doctors" and my family don't really know doctors and I feel like that's the only way people gain shadowing opportunities. Does anyone have tips? I already emailed a few doctors but I don't know if they actually reply. Please let me know if you have any tips! #college #doctor #medicine #student #pre-med #graduate-school #volunteering #medical-education

Is a double major in psychology and neuroscience worth it to get an edge on graduate school applications?

I am currently a freshman psychology major and I'm about to add a neuroscience double major because I think it might help me get into a better grad school. The problem is that I'm afraid that this double major might take time away that I could be using for internships/research, etc. It's possible graduate schools might have higher regards for these activities than for a double major, and I don't want to end up hindering myself. Do you recommend I keep the double major, or am I better off just focusing on gaining as much internship/research experience as possible? #psychology #internships #graduate-school #research #neuroscience #double-major #academic-advising #scheduling

In your experience, are psychology internships *or* research experience more important for acceptance to graduate school?

I'm currently an underclassman, however I'd like to gain some quality experience for grad school. Considering that I'm looking to become a professor who conducts research, I thought that in my case pursuing research experience might be the better call. Is this the correct type of thinking, or would an internship outside of my college count for just as much on a graduate school resume? #psychology #internships #graduate-school #research #resume #experience

When should psychology majors looking to pursue a Ph.D. program plan to enter said program?

I'm currently a freshman psychology major, but I want to start planning early for what I want to do upon graduating with my bachelors. I'd like to become a psychology professor and researcher. I've heard a number of different options for this...1.) You can attend a grad program straight out of your undergrad, 2.) You can go get your masters degree in between undergrad and your Ph.D., or 3.) You can take 2 years or so to work as a research assistant before your Ph.D. program in order to gain paid experience. Is one of these paths more ideal than the others? Does it vary by person and what they plan to do with their Ph.D.? #psychology #graduate-school #college-admissions #research #graduate-programs

Is there a program where you can obtain your M.A in psychology in only one year?

I have heard from a few people that there is now a program where you can obtain your Masters in Psychology in just two semesters. However, I am unsure whether this option exists. I have currently been going to school for a while now, far too long than expected. It would be absolutely amazing to do this program if it does exits. I certainly can go to my advisor and talk to her about it but I figured maybe I can get a response off of this. Someone please let me know! #graduate-school #masters

Is graduate school a lot harder than regular college?

I have heard from a numerous amount of people that graduate school is not harder than your regular college and/or university. Some people have told me that all it is is a lot more work and that it dives into specific content, which to my expectations does make sense because it is based strictly on that area of work which you are studying. Other individuals have said that graduate school is totally different and way more hard. Could this be due to it's title, Graduate School? I don't know who to believe and am wondering what the real answer to this question is! Just saying, even if it truly is more difficult this will not stop me from achieving my M.A. #college #university #graduate-school

Does every Psychology major necessarily need graduate school?

I am currently debating on attending graduate school and continuing my education for a Master's Degree. My main concern is that if I decide to not further do my education will it make things harder for myself in the long run to land a job. However, I understand that by getting your Masters you will definitely be making more money right from the start but, when obtaining a degree in Psych, is it better, more known for the individual, and even more respected to get your Masters? #psychology #graduate-school #degrees #masters-degree #graduate-programs

Should I spend less time and money in college but graduate with a less desirable degree for my intended career?

Hi! My name's Keegan and I'm currently an undergraduate student in the honors program at Tulane University. After seeing and realizing the financial burden of my first semester here on both my family and my future self, I started thinking about changing my previous plan of a 3+2 year dual degree physics and engineering program at Tulane and then Vanderbilt or Johns Hopkins to simply triple majoring in 4 years here in mathematics, physics, and economics. Upon paring down even further, I figured out that I can graduate in 3 doing a double major in mathematics and physics, or in 2 with a mathematics major + physics minor. My cost of college would potentially halve, and I would be able to pursue a graduate degree on a shorter timescale. However, what I want to do as a career is automotive engineering, and I'm not sure what path I would be able to take from an undergraduate degree in mathematics to get to that point. Is it a better idea to spend less money and accrue less debt but have a less desirable degree for my intended career, or is it better to stick it out for a longer period of time and graduate with a more diverse range of degrees? #mechanical-engineering #graduate-school #mathematics #physics #automotive #graduate-recruitment #mathematics-education
