Is a graphic design degree with a concentration in marketing better than just a graphic design degree?

Hi! I am a freshman at a community college currently and am trying to decide on a major for when I transfer to a four-year college. The Graphic design degree with marketing has more marketing classes of course. I am curious if that would boost my job availability or not so much. I enjoy the art side of graphic design and love to write so I am wondering if the marketing concentration would be beneficial.

What do Graphic Designers do as a career?

I'm a freshman in high school. If I'm being honest, I'm just doing this for an assignment. But I am curious about this career since I'm a developing artist. I like doing more digital art though. Is it a recommended career for artists? Digital artists? Or just anyone who have creative minds?

I'm a graphic designer, but I can't draw. Will this hurt me?

I'm a graphic designer (think layouts, typography graphics, and aesthetic designs) but I've never been able to draw. Seeing as that's a big part of designing, will this hurt me in a real world setting? Might be important to note that I do actually also have a background in photography, so I could take original images, just can't draw. #graphicdesign #graphics #illustration #digital-illustration #graphic-design

How do I start in a career?

Hello, I am a recent graduate and I have various skills in design, media, research, and web. Despite this, I am a beginner within all of these fields and I can't tell which career I should enter into or how. A lot of these jobs require a lot of experience. While I am very good and a hardworker, I do not have tons of work experience in one field. Overall, I have only a year of actual working experience. I can't take an unpaid job because of my loans either. The focus of my degree was originally in graphics and communication but I have found that those jobs are not too common in my area and marketing is more common. Any suggestions? I'm afraid if I take the wrong job, I won't get experience to build in a career and won't have stability or benefits in the long term if I don't follow a career path. #career #career-counseling #marketing #recruiting #career-development #marketing-and-advertising #graphics #web-design

What is the best way to determine if the major you picked is best for you?

I've known for a very long time that going into the art field is what I wanted to do. But it seems that everytime I think about pursuing my dream of graphic design, I get very nervous that I won't be able to get a job or I will be struggling as my career evolves and I will have to switch careers. The best way to put this question is, is how to know you won't want to change your career after putting so much money into schooling? Thank you! #art #communications #graphic-design #arts #graphics

What advice can you give to an upcoming college student that is completely happy of their major, but scared they won't get a job?

I will be attending school as a college freshman this coming August majoring in graphic design. I've known that graphic design is what I want to do for the rest of my life for a long time, I'm just nervous that I will regret going to school in the arts just in case someday after I graduate, I won't get a job. With me going to a school in New York City, I have a little bit more confidence, but the competition again makes me nervous. Any advice to help ease my nerves would be greatly appreciated! Should I pursue photography and other careers within the art industry or steer myself towards law, politics and sociology?

I am a student in the UK and I am an aspiring photographer, I also have interests in art and would like to venture into other careers of the art industry, such as illustration, graphic - design. However, I am unable to truly talk to photographers who are willing to take interns or have someone shadow them. I have contacted several and in the hope of receiving a response, yet I have not gained anything and have tried numerous times. I also am currently in year 12 in UK education system doing my as exams, and US equivalent is grade 11; I'm intrigued by sociology and politics, and considering to venture into that side as well but I am unsure which one I should pursue as I have equal amounts of interest for both. I am unsure on how I should approach Lawyers and ask for work experience or a few paid internship, the same goes for photography. #photography #graphics #illustrator #barrister #undecided

Which is better, large market studios or small market freelance work?

As a soon to be graduate is it better to jump straight into large market areas or begin smaller as a freelance designer. I am curious as to whether it would be more beneficial to start out small, in a local area close to home right out of college, to grow as a designer or if it is reasonable to go to the bigger market areas to bigger firms. If I jump straight into the bigger firm area how hard is it to get a job, and what would I need to do to make myself look better to larger design firms being from a small town? #design #graphics #web-design #digital-media #freelance #multimedia #visual-design #visual-studio
