Does the first university or college you attend matter when you are going to attend more than one?

Given the fact that I want to become an OB/GYN in the future this means that I will have some 12 years of schooling which I am pretty sure won't be in one place. I am currently aiming for UCLA, USC, and the like however people are telling me that the first university you attend doesn't matter the last one that you do does. Is this true or not? #jobs #university #higher-education #university-admissions

At the moment the most appealing choices I have are USC and UCLA so I want to know which one is better and if that can't be determined what are the pros and cons of each weighed against each other. What are the best ways for a high school freshman to gain money on the side?

I am a freshman now but I already recognize two things. First of all my parents will be able to afford little to none of the expenses associated with university and the amount of education and money it would take to become a doctor. And second the costs to university for that long of a time will not be cheap. I need to find a way to start earning money now so that when the time comes to go to university I will be able to make somewhat of a dent into the education bill. #jobs #university #higher-education #financial-aid

Do you think it's fair that a single standardized test can define you in your education?

I have recently begun applying to colleges. In doing so, I have been asked on numerous occasions what my ACT and SAT score is. Personally, I believe that one test should not be a determining factor in whether or not you get into college. Students have worked their whole primary education in preparing for college and what comes after receiving his or her diploma. A standardized test does not reflect our learning capabilities, but shows how well we can do taking a test. It is not fair to the people who struggle taking test, and those who have worked all 12 years of their education for this moment. #teacher #education #higher-education #japan #principal #professional-development #education-management

Would I be better off going to an out-of-state college with a great engineering program, or an in-state college with a good engineering program?

A few colleges I would love going to are Texas A&M, the University of Texas @ Austin, the University of Houston, or Georgia Tech on account of their phenomenal CompSci programs. However, the state I currently reside in is Mississippi. Though, they do have a good Computer Science & Engineering department, the best in the state. Would I be better off going to a decent Engineering university for cheap (e.g. Mississippi State, since I'll only be paying in-state fees), or a moderately to much more expensive university with a GREAT engineering program (e.g. Texas A&M, but I'll be paying out-of-state fees) in order to get recognition from employers and have an advantage when entering the work field? #college #computer-science #computer-software #engineering #science #computer #higher-education #software-engineering

What is the most important factor when looking into a buying a laptop for school?

My name is Briana, and I am currently a freshman in college. Throughout the summer, I had received a check for a local scholarship and am very thankful. With this money, I had planned to spend more than I currently had on textbooks. As I had spent most of y middle and high school career with a shared computer with my family, it proved to be more complicated to even get the time and silence necessary to do work. Now that i am able, my parents have set me loose onlooking for a computer that would best suit my needs. Except that I know practically nothing about them, aside for memory space and a new need for WiFi. I would thank anyone who takes the time to respond. #teacher #computer #higher-education #college-student #college-advice #computers #educational-technology

Is metacognition and right brain learning starting to revolutionize the way we think about learning and how we teach kids in school?

Sometimes I wonder if schools tend to favor left-brain dominant children. I think through images, I like theories, I'm intuitive, and I have no sense of time. (But I'm time sensitive). #psychology #education #higher-education

Should I take AP Biology or Regular Physics?

Hey there! So I'm at a controversy right now because I don't know if I should take AP Biology or Physics my Junior year of highschool. So I'm taking: Honors Biology- 9th grade Honors Chemistry- 10th grade AP Biology or Physics- 11th grade AP Bioogy (if I took Physics my 11th year) or AP Chemistry- 12th grade What I've heard before is that it's better for me to take Physics 11th grade because I'm planning on going into the medical field. But, on the other hand, I want to take AP to get my college credit. Any recommendations? #college #doctor #science #biology #university #higher-education #physics

What are some ways I can use my college summers efficiently if I can't get a summer job?

I'm entering my sophomore year in college, and still enjoying my summer. However, I was unable to find myself a steady job this summer (so I've been taking work where I can- moving jobs, pet & house-sitting, yard work, etc..), and have thus been spending all of my free time exercising my creativity by painting, writing, and working on establishing an online presence with vlogging. Still, I feel like there is more I can do- nay, more that I *should* be doing. When I get tired of painting or crafting or exercising I will crack open some of my language books from last semester to stay sharp, but aside from that, I feel stuck. #education #higher-education #counseling #time-management #mentoring #academic-advising #creative #e-learning

When choosing colleges, should ranking be valued over opportunities and experiences.

I am currently in the process of applying to colleges, and will probably be studying business. Within business school rankings, RI am seriously considering two schools. However, business, in my opinion, is a very experience-based subject. I believe that despite your education quality and level, your ability to prosper in the business world depends on how you deal with situations and people. With that being said, internships and job opportunities then, would be the key to succeeding in the business world. My question is: Let's say i was debating between the two schools listed above. One of them, although having a lower overall "ranking" than the other, has a close proximity to NYC, the tri-state area, etc. filled with a plethora of opportunities and connections that can enhance one's learning experiences. On the other hand, the other school has a higher ranking, but does not have as many opportunities for such first hand experiences and has slightly less of a metropolitan/ business environment. Given this case, what would be the school better to attend? should ranking be valued over opportunities and experiences? What would be more valued on a resume? What would have more personal growth? #college #business #higher-education
