How do I get started as an illustrator/graphic designer?

Hi! I'm a lifelong artist currently recovering from my engineering day job and the toll it's taken on my mental health. (Mechanical Engineering grad, 2-ish years into my career). I've finally gotten to a point where I'm ready to take the plunge and look for a more creative career. I'm totally lost on where to go from there, though. I would absolutely love to illustrate books but I don't think I'm ready to fully shift to freelance work. What other career options should I explore that are similar but a little more stable? (And ideally include healthcare, lol) What programs/certifications should I prioritize? What should I include in my portfolio? Thanks in advance :) please feel free to leave any other advice you have for me!

How do I become/get a job as an Illustrator?

I have always loved art and drawing growing up and my dream career is to become a graphic novelist/cartoonist. It would be cool to publish my own graphic novels or illustrate other's books but how do I do that? I also would like to know where character designers or concept artists work and what art software do I need to learn to create my art in those career fields?

Is it worth it getting an associates in illustration?

I am a high school student who is working on getting my bachelors in communications integrated with media management through dual enrollment. Since I will be graduating college two years early, I am trying to think about more schooling options. I love art and I think illustration will pair well with my major. I was thinking I could get my associates in illustration online after I get my bachelors so I can get a more artistic and creative job. Would this be a good option or should I look at something else?

I'm a graphic designer, but I can't draw. Will this hurt me?

I'm a graphic designer (think layouts, typography graphics, and aesthetic designs) but I've never been able to draw. Seeing as that's a big part of designing, will this hurt me in a real world setting? Might be important to note that I do actually also have a background in photography, so I could take original images, just can't draw. #graphicdesign #graphics #illustration #digital-illustration #graphic-design

I have just learned about the possible career path of veterinary medical illustration, and I'm very interested, but have some questions!

I'm a 12th grader looking to decide her major in college, and through Career Village I have been introduced to the idea of veterinary medical illustration. The only concern I have is that it may be too niche, and I won't be able to make a career out of it. What are the upsides to this? Is it too niche? Is it a smart decision to make as an animal lover, or will I get grossed out? #career-path #career #veterinarian #illustration #medicalillustration #veterinarymedicalillisustration

What is the best way to land a job as an illustrator?

I plan to major in illustration/animation at San Jose State University but am clueless on how to go about finding a job after college. What specific factors affect the chance of a freelance illustrator getting a job offer from a client?

I understand that freelancers have to manage their own money, time, daily schedule, as well as their marketing, and various other things. Because of this, I would like to know the specific actions taken by a **freelance illustrator** (who is looking to get an offer from a client in any industry) that they feel are their most important "keys to success." For instance; ● Are there any things a current or previous freelancer would recommend having on a resume? ● What kinds of pieces would you recommend having in a portfolio? ● Are there any specific sites or places that you would recommend getting familiar with? ● Any tips and tricks you used to increase your number of possible clients? Thank you in advance for your time. #illustrator #digital-art #illustration #freelance #digital-illustration #art-and-illustration #freelancer
