What would you advise a college senior applying for a Master's or PhD in International Relations immediately after undergrad Is it better to work first? If yes, what jobs in the international relations field pay decently? Personally, I am interested in global politics (especially with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa), foreign policy, research, and diplomacy.

I am rising senior majoring in International Relations with a minor in Economics. I've been thinking about the Think Tank world because I like doing research but I also like the idea of the foreign service (I still struggle with learning French). I would love to do diplomatic work, maybe more in the political side of things. Sorry if this is all over the place.

What are good summer programs in Europe for August September?

I am a student from Germany and i won't have semester break before August. I would love to spend my free time from August- mid October studying more and doing some summer schools or other programs in the are of international relations/politics/diplomacy/.. However all the programs in Europe that i found start before august and i therefore won't be able to attend them. Does anyone have any good ideas what to do around this time of the year? Of course internships are also an option but i can't seem to find one that is fitting me. I am currently studying a BA of Korean Studies (minor Chinese studies) but want to do my MA in the field of international relations...

Best Universities in the field of International Relations/International Politics?

I am currently graduating in Korean Studies, but i want to do a MA in International Relations/Politics. My goal for the future is to get into the EU or the UN, both of which require a very good degree from a god university. Other than Harvard and LSE (just wayyyy too expensive) what are good options for doing a Masters in this field? Which universities are famous for IR? I heard a lot about Sciences Po in Paris? What are other good options, preferably in Europe?

How do i find more people that inspire me and push me to get better in what i want to do?

In my university I can't seem to find many people that have the same burining desire or goals like me. I have big goals for my future, i want to work in the international field in organizations like the UN, but right now I feel a bit stuck and don't seem to find people or mentors that elevate me. I don't know who to reach out to or how to change this and I feel like i need to have better surroundings of people that actually make me learn new things, are ambiguous and smart and give me new ideas. I feel like i need support and advice on how to reach my goals and shape my future, but even the professors in my major are very passive and even when asked don't give out any valuable advice.

What types of jobs and college majors should I consider if I want to dedicate myself to supporting refugees?

There are millions of refugees around the world facing huge challenges. I am interested in finding ways to dedicate myself to the cause, but I'm not sure what kinds of jobs are available. I'm just finishing high school and I'm planning to go to college, but I'm not yet decided on what kind of major. All options are open. I have already searched on CareerVillage for other questions and found some interesting ones from other students with particular interests (such as medicine). But I haven't found a more general question in terms of all the options that are available. What would be most helpful to me would be to get a lot of different types of suggestions of jobs that I could go research further. If you don't have any experience working from refugees I would still love to hear from you. If you do have experience working with refugees, I'd love to hear it! #refugee #international-relations #college-major #international #aid #international-development #refugees

How can I get involved in economics and political science? Especially with research. How can I be a leader with these interests?

I’d like to become involved in economics and poli sci and really stand out as a high school student. Are there any recommendations for research or extracurriculars I can start. I have seen people publish books and start organizations and I don’t really have any ideas so far. I am really interested in creating representation for minorities and females in these fields. #college #college-major #political-science #politics #high-school #economics #international #international-relations

If I would like to be a journalist with an international focus, should I major in journalism or international relations?

My goal is to work in journalism, however I'm not sure which major would be best. I know that journalism is a competitive major, and an international relations degree offers more versatility, so I would like to study both. My choices are to major in journalism and minor in international relations, major in international relations and minor in journalism, or double major in both. #journalism #international-relations #college #college-major

Political Science or International Relations?

Which should I major in? I am interested in working in foreign policy, but I'm not sure which is the better major to pursue for this. Should I go with the less specific Political Science, so I have a safety net if I don't like foreign policy? Or should I go more specific and really specialize on my preferred topic?? #majors #college-major #political-science #international-affairs #international-relations

If I want to work in an embassy, but not as part of the military, what should I study in college?

In the future, I want to work in an embassy overseas, but I'm unsure as to what field is best for me to study if I want to do this. I've been looking mostly at environmental science, information science, and computer science for my major in college. Is there another major that is more sought after for individuals wanting to work in embassies? Thanks! #international-relations

What jobs relate to the field of international relations/development?

I am currently working towards an undergraduate degree in international development/globalization with a minor in political science at the University of Ottawa. While I am very interested and inspired by the content I have been learning, I am not sure exactly what I want to specialize in when it comes time to apply for my masters degree and search for job experience. Are my only job prospects working in politics or working for an NGO? Money isn't a major priority for me, I just want to help people who are exploited by the international system, therefore working in politics (for "the system") almost seems like it goes against my values. If I worked in politics, I would want the freedom to make a difference in the field, not to be a slave to it. In sum: Are there any job positions in the political field that may provide me with a sense of independence so that I can make a difference rather than work for the system we already have in place? And are there any jobs outside of the political field that can provide me with a means to make a difference internationally, while still providing me with a minimum sense of employment security? #international #political-science #politics #masters-degree #international-relations #human-rights #international-development #globalization

Why is journalism dying and what are the skills of a competent journalist?

There are some great journalists who work for The Atlantic, The New York Times, and other sources. I was talking to a friend the other day about potential careers and she said I may be a journalist. She thinks that we need GOOD journalists; not just people who write about pop culture. I do agree with that. Journalism is dying because of the internet but how can we bring it back? Journalists have guts and make the INVISIBLE, VISIBLE. This is a good example: https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2016/09/amtrak-conductor/499664/ "You just learn so much from people in general by working the train. The railroad is kind of like a microcosm of society."~David Pryor. A unique perspective of how someone views a railroad... I like it! #journalism #advertising #media #international-relations #online-journalism #internet

I plan to major in International Relations, and I would like to hear what that major entails from someone who's studied it.

I love the idea of helping people by being a diplomat, working in government, or for a not-for-profit. I just don't know anyone who's majored in this field and I'd love to hear what it's like! #international-relations

Where is the best country to work in with a Business Degree after i graduate?

I am currently a Sophomore in college and i am not sure where to get a head start on my career right after i graduate. Sometimes newly graduates get offered a job overseas and they never know whether they should take the job or not. Most of the times when students take a job overseas; they either regret the decision or do not enjoy the culture and surrounding they are in. The reasons could be because they feel alone and far away from home. #business #finance #accounting #international-business #international-relations
