What's it like working in finance?
I'm interested in finance and i'm not sure how to figure out which specific area I want to go into. I understand IB is lucrative but i'd love to hear what the real world experience is like in any of these areas. The salary always seems solid and the hours are usually long. But what's the work like? how's your mental health, physical health, and ability to balance everything else that's important in life? I am turning 28 this year. My past experience is in Marketing and Sales and just got my Undergraduate Business degree in 2019. During univeristy I picked up some finance subjects as electives like corporate and financial markets. I really love to sell, to invest and to be aware of what happens in the financial sector everyday. I try to learn things by myself but I am afraid is not enough to convince a hiring manager to have me as an intern. Currently I am studying a postgraduate in Business Intelligence. If it's too late, what other similar companies I could try? PE o VC for example? Also, is always Financial Analyst the entry level position for everyone new in the industry? Like I understand that you make investments but what are you doing while you're deciding how to make them or making them? I dont know if you know the show Shark Tank on TV, but the people there make investments too, but that can't always be what it is like for everyone. Economics and an Ethical Career
Looking for a career and wondering what jobs there are combining, economics and an ethical future. Looking at Winthrop or a highly-rated online school for Economics and wondering what else to take? Finance seems practical and common. Definitely want a well paying job. But would be interested in possibly research for what changes can be made to increase wealth and health to as many people as possible while remaining fair, ethically, and environmentally friendly. I support business models like Target (the retail store) and would interesting in working on their team. Suggestions on jobs/careers and college directions? I don't have the funds yet, but have been researching getting into ethical and green and sustainable investing funds, maybe helping people with personal finances (lessons or advisor), or changing the GDP we use to measure our nation's wealth to be more precise and probably include other factors.
