What's the best way to become fluent in a foreign language?
I've been studying several East Asian languages and so far, I've tried taking formal classes and online courses, self-teaching through textbooks, and using spaced repetition. I've also heard that immersion is a good way to learn, so I've been trying to implement more of that into my routine as well. Is it a bad idea to pursue a study abroad program that will neither apply to my major nor provide me credits that I don't already have?
I am a psychology major and am currently interested in applying for 2 very different study abroad programs. One is a psychology program and the other is a Spanish program. I ask this question because I already obtained all the language credits I need from high school but I still wish to learn and practice Spanish to a more advanced level because it's simply a strong desire of mine to become a more fluent speaker. What better way to do that than by immersing myself in a culture that speaks Spanish as its primary language? At the same time, I constantly wonder if it is a waste trying to pursue the Spanish program out of mere interest instead of sticking to applying for programs that will go towards my major. #study-abroad #language

Chinese vs German
I'm trying to decide what language I want to take for high school. As I've talked about before, I've been thinking about taking a train apprenticeship. The rail company is based in Switzerland, and a lot of their instructions are in German. So if I take German, it would help me get my foot in the door, and it might get me higher pay. But, I do plan on joining the military, and (Mandarin) Chinese is a mission-critical language, and more valuable. But both languages might get me an extra $300 or so more in pay a month. #military #college #business #finance #college-major #entrepreneur #train #rail #money-management #high-school #language #money-management #chinese #german #language #high-school #college #career

I have a dream of visiting Korea and taking dance classes, going to a concert, and whatnot. Yes, I am one of those people who like k-pop and the culture. Literally so amazing. If I am planning on majoring in something like Psychology or Pre-Med, would it be strange/frowned upon to minor in a language or possibly have a double minor including a language and some other science?
I have taken three levels of Psychology in my high school: gifted, on-level, and AP, and have enjoyed the vast range that this subject offers. I'm planning on going to medical school after college, however I am a first-generation American from my family, so my family and I are not familiar with the whole college and medical school process. I am extremely interested in learning Russian in college simply because my family speaks it, and I am not able to speak it as well as my other family members. #psychology #college-major #pre-med #college-bound #college-minor #language #russian

Is French a good language to become fluent in and minor in?
I want to pursue a career in law enforcement after I graduate from college. I know that being fluent in different languages increases your chance of being hired. I am looking forward to becoming fluent in college. However, people keep telling me French is not a good language to minor in because nobody is looking for people who speak French as a second language; they are looking for someone who speaks Spanish or Arabic. Is it true that having French as a second language and a minor won't increase my standing with future employers? #college #criminal-justice #law-enforcement #college-minor #language #french
