What is it like being a Bilingual Speech Language Pathologist?

Hi, I am trying to gain more insight on the bilingual aspect in the SLP workplace. I am almost certain that I want to be a bilingual SLP and help service my community, but I am not sure how that would look like. If anyone would like to help me and give me some pros and cons of working primarily as a bilingual SLP and/or how a day or week would look? #JULY20 #speech-pathology #bilingual #language #SLP

In which career in the psychology/therapy fields would ASL and foreign languages be most valued?

I speak 2 languages (including English) fluently and 3 more at varying degrees of functional fluency. One language I know that I think is particularly unique is American Sign Language, which I learned in school and at an academic summer camp. Now that I'm thinking about potential career choices in the fields of psychology and therapy, I wonder where my language skills would be most valued. I mean this in the sense of the value of being able to help a community with less resources available to them, and also in terms of the financial value this career path would have to me. Especially, I wonder if I could make a big difference by working with people in the Deaf community--are there already a lot of people doing that? I really want to work in therapy much more than in psychology, as far as that makes any difference in answering this question. Thanks in advance! #psychology #language #social-psychology #child-psychology #school-psychology #languages #moral-psychology #american-sign-language

Hello! My name is Alyssa and I am a current high school student. Comment on this post, answering all 13 questions to be apart of my assignment. 1. What profession did you choose? Why? 2. How many years of college did you need to go through? 3. What jobs did you work before you landed your present professional job? 4. How can I decide if I should earn a Ph.D. in this field? 5. Were you in a college program? 6. Did you have to pivot and go back to school at a later date? 7.Did you shadow another professional in the field? 8. Did you join any school clubs related to your current profession? 9. Was there a particular subject you struggled with during your school years? 10. What skill sets did you learn or gain while pursuing your career? 11. What will the main communication challenges be? 12. Can a communication device help? If so, can we talk with an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) specialist? 13. Do you work as part of a team? What members are on the team?

Chinese vs German

I'm trying to decide what language I want to take for high school. As I've talked about before, I've been thinking about taking a train apprenticeship. The rail company is based in Switzerland, and a lot of their instructions are in German. So if I take German, it would help me get my foot in the door, and it might get me higher pay. But, I do plan on joining the military, and (Mandarin) Chinese is a mission-critical language, and more valuable. But both languages might get me an extra $300 or so more in pay a month. #military #college #business #finance #college-major #entrepreneur #train #rail #money-management #high-school #language #money-management #chinese #german #language #high-school #college #career

Language: Self Study or take classes?

I will be entering college soon and I really want to learn French. For a few months I have been self studying with online resources because my my high school does not offer the language. I believe that my college only offers courses in beginners French and I do not know if I should take these courses or continue self studying. I am not sure whether I would benefit from beginners classes because I might already be ahead, but I would need experience speaking and interacting with others in French. I feel that if you self-study a language there is really no proof of it unless you take a language exam, unlike if you take a class you will get credit. I just need some opinions on this. #college #language #foreign-languages #french #self-study
