This may sound silly, but WHY doesn't instant success happen to most people?

I'm a freshman in college and I tend to be an idealist... I don't expect to be "instantly successful" out of college because according to my dad, that's unheard of/rare. But WHY are most people NOT instantly successful. Why is it such a long process? What keeps people from being instantly successful. Though I agree with Jon Stewart, creativity comes from LIMITS not freedom. Thanks! #college #job-search #success #life-skills #life-transitions #personal-development

What can I do to feel more excited about, and less scared for, my college transition in a few months?

I'm very close with my family, but my top school is over five hours away from home. Everyone tells me that college will be one of the best times of my life, but I can't help but feel more terrified than excited. Is there anything I can start doing now to start easing myself into the idea? What should do when I get to school to make the transition easier? #college #undergraduate #life-transitions

When I am old enough, should I focus more on serving a mission for my church or getting married?

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and serving a mission to teach the gospel is very important to me. However, I also know that getting married is an essential part of God's plan. As I approach the age at which I will be able to serve a mission, should I be focusing more on serving the Lord or on maintaining the close friendships I may develop at college, that could eventually lead to something more? #missionary-work #marriage #college #life-transitions

How to stand out in teacher's minds and think outside the box?

Hello again. This question seems absurd in itself as the answers are very gray not black and white. However, I am going to be a college freshman next year and am trying to get outside my comfort zone. I am just realizing that there truly is no normal and I should stop asking people what they think and ask myself first. So this is why the question seems pointless. But still, how should I go in writing papers or projects that approach a different way? To end with a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. "The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education." #professor #college-bound #college-essay #life-transitions

How do I know if going to college immediately after high school is the right choice for me?

I attend Lexington High School which is very academically stressful and competitive. I was one of the many students that pushed myself throughout my four years there and now it seems as though it is expected of me to continue doing so in college right away but I am afraid of becoming burnt out and needing a gap year in order to make money and mature before committing to a college. #college #gap-year #life-transitions

How long does it take you to cope with a new area?

I've been watching a lot of YouTube videos about first day experiences and living in the new dorm in a new environment and most of the people who are taking videos seem pretty confident in themselves. I've never moved before in my ENTIRE LIFE and now all of a sudden I'm getting kicked out and moving to a room for the next four years?! And what about classes? Is it true you don't have classes every day? I changed schools from freshman to sophomore year and I felt like I was going to throw up! At least, I could've gone home... Now home is me...by myself...paying for my own stuff... How long will you be homesick? #college #life-transitions #academic-advising

How do you find out the requirement for transferring out of state?

For example California has assist.org which tells you the specific classes admissions and records like to see in transcripts when transferring from let's say a community college to a UC or private school. However assist.org only works for colleges within California. I am from California and would like to transfer to Western Washington University. I have called and spoke to councilors at WWU however, they only have given me a generic broad overview of what they like to see. So my question is what is a useful tool that can help transferring out of state easier and can help direct the student in letting them know they are taking the right classes. #Transfering #OutOfState #Washington #psychology #HelpPlease #LifeChanges #life-transitions
