Do companies truly focus on your college major when applying for jobs?

My major might be something broad like English, but I want to work in the creative arts. I want to know if employers truly care about your major even if it might not match exactly to what they want. #major

I'm a marketing major in my 3rd year - but I loved my accounting class! How do I know which to major in?

I am currently a third year student in marketing. I switched to marketing at the beginning of my third year, so the business classes were knew to me. I will be graduating late. I took accounting 1 this fall and I absolutely loved it - which is weird for me to say. I didn't know anything about accounting before this class, so I thought I was going to dread it. It ended up being really "easy" for me since I enjoyed figuring the problems out and didn't mind studying. This was my first college class that I felt this way about. It is making me want to switch my major to accounting. Although, I haven't taken any marketing classes yet. I enjoy marketing partly because I enjoy the free range of job opportunities after undergrad. I like that it is creative and has endless job opportunities that don't all involve a job in a cubicle. I was looking for advice on this decision I have. I definitely need to shadow people in accounting and in marketing, but was also looking for advice on here from anyone! #major #business #college #advisor #accounting #marketing #career #advice #majors #jobs

What's the best major for marketing?

What's the best undergrad major for someone who wants to be in a marketing managerial position eventually, whilst simultaneously having a plan B? Marketing, finance, or other? I've heard that marketing is not the major that it used to be, and most people advice me to align with the marketing path, but with an entirely different business degree since marketing is 'useless' and doesn't provide the necessary skills for working in the field. My initial plan was to major in marketing and attend a state university for 4 years while working an internship and networking, followed by eventually getting a job and working on an MBA, as well as certifications. Is this a good idea, or am I way off?

Is electrical engineering right for me?

Hello! I'm a high school senior applying for college, and I know I want to do engineering but I'm still a bit unsure about what type to apply for. I was considering Electrical Engineering because the classes sound interesting and I've read up on a couple topics independently because of that, but I'm afraid I don't really know what they're like -- I've taken AP Physics 2 but not AP Physics C, and I really don't know much about hardware in electronics. I'm also not the time to take things apart and put them together, but I'm still interested in math/science as well as problem solving. I just want to know if choosing EE as a major could work out, or if there is a better option for someone like me. Thank you! #ee #electrical-engineering #high-school #college #engineering #tech #technology #major #electrical #college-majors

Would a major in Strategic Communications with a Business minor or a major in Marketing be best for a career in business?

I'm ending my second year in college and am having trouble with my major. I haven't necessarily decided on one yet. I'm deciding if I should do Strategic Communications with a Business minor or apply to the business school and do Marketing. I'm planning on applying no matter what but I would have to decide which route to take by July 2020 (when I would find out if I got into the business school or not). If I go with marketing, I would definitely have to do another year of college and would be behind/may struggle in difficult classes. If I do strategic communications, I would be on track for 4 years but still be catching up. My future career interests seem to center around the business world and I see myself best with the marketing area. I don't have a good idea of what exactly I want to do, but I want to be involved with business. This being said, which would be the best major route for me to pursue? #business #marketing #college-major #college #entrepreneur #major #communications #comm #stratcomm #career #future #college-major

How do I choose what major / career if I'm interested in everything and nothing really stands out?

I was going to pursue law, but then acupuncture sounded interesting, but also com sci. I don't have experience in any of these three categories, so who knows? Maybe I won't like all of them. I'm applying to college soon, but I don't really have an idea of what I want to do so I'm kind of stuck. How did you guys choose your careers / majors?

How do you figure out what you want to be (career and major)?

I am a junior in high school and am having trouble figuring out and deciding what to major in. Part of me wants to explore fields that would help me become a behavioral analyst for crimes and another part of me wants to just take an easier route in being a business major. Probably marketing or sales because I find those come rather naturally. I have never really known what I want to do and it is a struggle for me to decide what path I want to take to lead me to happiness and success.

What is a good path for a human resources career?

Hi! I am Abby, and I don't actually know what I'm going to do with my life. It's a little intimidating and scary as a high school senior. I have done some research on what I am interested in, and declared my major at most prospective schools as psychology. I genuinely like it and I feel like it opens doors to different future careers. However, it is not something I can see myself doing forever, and most psychology majors have to pursue a post-BA education to have a shot at a job. While I am interested in psych, I think a career like HR or another corporate path would work and to keep the door open, I wanted to see if anyone had any advice on how to get started, or what paths people took. My main questions are: - How will it take to exit the "entry level" tier in HR? - How well paying is it? Or, how long did it take to get to a well paying position? This is not something that's extremely high on my list of factors, but I do think it matters quite a bit. - How large is the potential for growth (promotions, bonuses, etc)? - How hard is it to find a job? - Will a psychology major be looked down upon in the hiring sense? I have heard from other sources that this may be an occurrence for psych majors looking to go corporate. - Any other career advice or other potential paths? Thank you so much for your time, and any advice is appreciated! #psychology #college #college-major #career #major #corporate #humanresources #psychologymajor #business #chro #management

What careers should I look into?

For years I have been trying to figure out what career/field I should go into. I have been looking into healthcare, but I decided to consider other fields to make sure that's what I want to do. I am interested in math, science, technology, art, agriculture, and photography. I am also a people person and I want my future job to have a great work-life balance, a good salary, and I don't want to be in college for any longer than six years . I can't seem to find the right job that meets all of my criteria. Please advise. #college-major #career #college #job #career-counseling #major #math #science #agriculture #photography #art #technology
