Getting into Biotech without Biotech related degree

I am a Psychology major graduating in Spring of 2022 and heavily considering getting my MBA after graduation. I discovered recently that I would like to work in business for a medical research/ biotech company in hopes of starting my own one day. But I am not sure if getting in this industry is possible, because of my current degree and no prior experience in this field. #biotech #molecular-biology #mba #medical #medicine #nanotechnology #college #research #business #medical-research #career #masters #career-choice

What degree is more helpful between biochemistry, molecular biology, or microbiology?

I am a currently biochemistry student and I am very indecisive in my career path. I want to ultimately research and help in the process of creating medicines and treatments to disorders, but I also want to study genetics and cancer stem research. So, I have decided to either undertake a minor or double major in molecular biology or microbiology. Correct me on this if I am wrong, but I researched that with a biochemistry degree one can utilize it to help make medicine or find treatments to diseases and disorders. Meanwhile, a molecular biology degree can be utilized to study disorders and bacterial diseases. So, which degree would be more helpful towards a job field as described? My college only provides molecular biology, biochemistry, biology and a minor in microbiology #biology #medicine #biochemistry #science #molecular-biology #microbiology #genetics #diseases

Will the field of genetics be detrimental to my personal beliefs?

I am planning to pursue a #STEM degree in either #genetics or #molecular-biology, but I am afraid that my field will be filled with people who are actively trying to cure #autism which is not something that can be cured, but is just a different mind type with a wide range of symptoms and effects. I also do not agree with the search for a so-called "gay gene" because I feel that is only motivated by the want to edit said gene out of the population. Are there places to conduct #research that aren't as biased/bigoted? I know that #johns-hopkins-university is out of the question because their magazine had both of the above "studies". Is there a safe alternative for me, or do I have to deal with intolerance and ignorance anywhere I go?

Where are the best places for conducting scientific research?

I hope to enter the field (likely along the lines of genetic or cellular/molecular biology research) after college; however, I know that tons of others are hoping to do the same. I have also heard that scientific research is being less and less funded in the United States. With that reality looming over my head, I'm already worrying about if I'll get a position that I will enjoy and be able to survive financially with- and I'm only a freshman! Are there particular areas of the country where it's easier to make it as a researcher? Or are there other parts of the world I could set my sights on? #research #stem #women-in-stem #women-in-science #science #life-sciences #biology #genetics #cell-biology #molecular-biology

How do I blend visual art and writing skill with my biotechnology degree for a career?

Are there any outlets for socialization or working with people in the fields of genetics/biomedical science?

I'm in love with biomedical engineering and genetics/genomics, but I also tend to be a social butterfly. I'm concerned that the constant lab work and studies will keep me from interacting with people and forming stable workplace relationships. My parents have suggested the profession of genetic counseling, which is a viable option, but I was just wondering if there were any other professions that would allow for a more equal science/communication balance. #genetics #genetic-counseling #relationships #biomedical-engineering #biomedical #molecular-biology #biology #social #career-paths #career-path #people #psychology #college-major

What innovations can be done in genetic testing that will potentially further cancer research or a cure to cancer?

Over the past two years I've learned that it is possible to manipulate the microbiome of a child as well as its genetic traits. Throughout my research no one has raised the question of if it is possible to remove a cancerous gene or monitor it once it could possibly be discovered through genetic testing. If we have the technology to foresee tragedies why not prevent them? #science #molecular-biology #genetics #genetictesting #infants #protectourfuture

Should I major in Biochem with Biology or just Molecular biology?

I want to be a genetic counselor. Biochemistry with Biology is definitely the harder of the two majors, and I am concerned about pushing myself too much. But, it has more of the classes I'm interested in. However, I am more interested in the biology side and I don't want to take six hard chemistry classes and labs if I don't have to. #biology #biochemistry #molecular-biology #college-major #college #college-advice
