What classes would be best to take in order to become an optometrist? What schools should I look into after high school graduation?

I am a freshman in high school and my dream job is to be an optometrist after witnessing my uncle lose his vision in the span of 3 years. I want to start planning my academic route but would like recommendations for classes. Also what schools give good degrees in biology and are more likely to get you accepted into an optometry school?

As a young man planning to attend college I want to pursue a career that will allow me to give back to my community and others through volunteer service. As an optometrist what is the biggest volunteer service project you completed in helping others?

My goal and ambition in life is to serve and help others. I have a passion to make people smile and give of myself and time. I volunteer in my community by working with kids, elderly and my church. As I attend college and pursue a career I want to know that their is other opportunities in this field besides making money. I want to everyday give good care, serve others with respect and kindness but GIVE to those in need. #optometry

Can I major in Business Management and go to Dental School or Optometry School?

I'm a freshman who just started college and I'm quite confused. At first I was a business major and then switched over to biological sciences because I've always wanted a career in the health field and thought that might be the best major. Now, I don't really think so. I either want to be a dentist or an optometrist, two things that I am interested in along with business. Will it be a bad idea to major in business rather than something like psychology or a science-major? Thank you. #college-major #business #entrepreneur #college #business-management #pre-dental #pre-optometry #dental #health #optometry

Optometry vs. Ophthalmology- Should I be worried that the MDs will take over the ODs?

I am interested in pursuing Optometry, which means I would need to take the OAT, and go into Optometry school. However, if you go through with Medical school, and the MCAT, one could become an Ophthalmologist. I don't want to begin following the Optometry route if the MDs could take over the jobs, leaving me with nothing. I understand that an MD can perform surgery as well as the general check-ups, which is why I am hesitant seeing as they can do more than the Optometrist (except for those few cases if you get your TPG, TPL, or TLG attached to your license). Should I worried? Should I just go through with medical school and become an Ophthalmologist instead? #medicine #healthcare #employment #optometry #ophthalmologist #optometrist

College biology student with too many career options

I am entering my junior year of college and do not know how to choose a career. I am a biology major with many interests and career options like optometry, genetic counseling, research, and college professor. I have shadowed an optometrist (a career I have been interested in for a long time) and could see myself in that career but am still unsure. I am also doing remote research this summer but am very limited in what I can do, and I don't think I want to write scientific papers all the time as a career. I also have no teaching or counseling experience and don't know if any other career options would fit me. I have considered medical school but I'd prefer to specialize right away in my field. I have felt a little down this summer because of my indecision. If anyone has any guidance or words of encouragement, I would greatly appreciate it :) #biology #college #science #medicine #optometry #genetics #career #doctor #research

Should I go in undecided, look into majors, or stick with biology?

My current major is biology but I'm not 100% if I will be interested in this field. There are some things I like and dislike about it but I understand with every major, there might be a couple classes/subjects that will not excite you. I have also heard it is one of the more challenging majors, but again, I understand it depends on the person. I'm not sure if I should stick with biology and see how it plays out, and if not change my major, go in undecided, or maybe look into other majors? As of right now, I'm interested in optometry but I'm not 100% certain if my mind is set on this. Are there other majors that could possibly be taken for optometry? #college-major #college #biology #optometry
