How did you come to terms with/and find yourself WANTING to be in the medical field, despite the expectations of immigrant parents?

If you're a first-gen and you have immigrant parents who wanted you to become a doctor, how did you come to terms with/and find yourself wanting to be in the medical field, rather than just going into it because your parents told you?

What's it like to be in Career Village?

I have #autism. My life was very rough with it. I was struggling in #school all these years because I mad some of my #teachers mad in the past. All I want is to #graduate and go to #college so that I can get a #job. I have my #parents to support me. I sometimes like to dabble in #arts-and-crafts. When I enter college, I would like to enroll in #STEM. I know it may be hard, but I hope that when I #graduate, I would have the talent in a few #technology jobs like computer science.

How do you survive in the real world? Independence or reliance?

Jobs. Taxes. Bills. Grocery shopping. Once I move away from home, it’s all up to me now, which raises the question: is it better to learn how to handle this stuff through my own mistakes and learn from the Internet OR to constantly get personal help from my parents every time a problem comes up? #moving-out #real-world #survival #parents

Whats the best way about being a surgeon when you have a family or are planning to have one? Is it better to be a general surgeon or go into specialty?

Im really focused on becoming a vernal surgeon since it is my dream since I was little, and I am personally a family oriented person who would love to have a family of my own someday. But i realized that general surgeons work up to 12 hours daily and have to be available at ALL time when on "on call". Whats holding me back is that if I become a general surgeon i won't have time for my family and I don't want that so thats why I'm deciding whether or not I should even pursue that! Id like some advice from someone who's in this situation or who knows someone else in this situation! #doctor #parents #medicine #hospital-and-health-care
