How do you address recipients in your email professionally?

Hello! I'm currently a freshman university student, and I send a lot of emails through my university email, to professors and university staff alike. I've done research on the right ways to email professors, reading tons and tons of articles but a Google search can't seem to help me. It's a little hard to discern when to use "Professor" and when to use "Ms." or "Mrs." or "Mr."--which is completely different from high school, where seeing teachers daily let you know how to address them. In college, it's a different story. How would you start an email to someone older than you? I always try to look at what they sign off the email with, but starting off with "Hello William," to the head of the Global Studies department is rather off-putting to me. Do you use Professor, or Mr. or Mrs.? What about your T.A.s? Or the head of the Residential Life Department, or a financial aid advisor? What if they're not married? #college #university #communications #professional-development #communication-skills #professional-training #email #professionalism #personal-development

How do you keep yourself motivated when studying a subject you really don't like?

I love the program I'm taking, but there are some courses that are mandatory and not related to my field. It's easy to get motivated to study most of the courses, but the other mandatory courses also affect my GPA. So, how do I motivate myself to study hard and do very well on the courses that I dislike? How does one decide upon an interest?

When it comes to careers, I generally want to choose a career that interests me. However, I haven't been able to narrow my interests down to a point where I can choose a career path that interests me. Some of my interests include: Biology, Technology, Music, Programming, Psychology, Philosophy, and many others. As you can see, my interests lie scattered across many different fields, which makes it difficult for me to decide upon my career. Any tips as to how I can find my direction? #career-counseling #career-choice #personal-development #undecided

Some tips on balancing college, work, and other aspects of your life?

I'm 20 and have been enrolled in community college since I was 16. It's been a roller-coaster as far as my academic performance; I've done well in many classes and failed just as many. I think the biggest factor of my failures is my tendency to procrastinate when I get overwhelmed or stressed. Sometimes I get so stressed out and anxious that I sleep in and skip class altogether. I'm a very busy person for my age; I'm a full-time college student, work 30 hours a week (give or take 5 hours), and on the weekends I spend time with my fiance and his daughter (as well as working 8 hours each day); sometimes I can find time to study during the weekend, but usually I'm too distracted. Because I use public transportation, I usually have to go straight to work after class, which leaves me not much time to study, let alone other basic things such as cooking, cleaning, exercise and personal hygiene. My weeks usually look like this: Monday and Tuesday: Wake up around 6:45-7, leave about 7:50, get to school 30 minutes early for my 9 am class; no work. Wednesday, Thursday: Same morning routine, but I leave class and go straight to work; Get home around 11pm. Friday: No class, but I go to work between 2-4 until 10:30pm. Saturday/Sunday: Wake up mid-morning, do some kind of activity with the kid, work until 9-10:30. I know that what I'm doing isn't impossible, so what key thing am I missing here that will help me manage my time better? All responses are greatly appreciated! #psychology #clinical-psychology #time-management #studying-tips #work-life-balance #psychotherapy #personal-development #habit-forming

Is college worth the investiment if I am interested in pursuing a creative field?

Hello, currently I am an art student attending community college for an associate's degree in fine art and for a while now I have been contemplating if I am really suited to be in a college environment? Because after reflecting upon my own skills and interests I have recognized that I do not have many useful skills outside of art and I do not feel that college is a necessity if your an artist. I can understand the need for college for people who want to pursue more technical careers such as medical or law but when it concerns more creative fields that relate to art the work that you have produced holds more value to employers than a college degree. While I do believe that college art classes would help improve my skills, at the same time, I also think there are cheaper and more convenient alternatives for improving my craft on account of all the information that is available to artists online and that includes all of the countless internet videos that teach art lessons. So my question is would a degree in art actually help me land a job in the future? Or am I wasting time and money trying to get a useless degree when I would be better off spending my time promoting my own art work and creating content that will increase my value as an artist? I would like to hear your opinions on this subject and thank you in advance for any advice you can give me. #career #artist #fine-art #future-careers #community-college #associates-degree #creative-direction #personal-development #financial-planning #career-details

How do you reconcile between following your passion and choosing a career that can support you financially?

Hello! I am a recent college graduate (got my BA), and I've been recently doing some deep soul searching in terms of life purpose and mission. There is a part of me that wants to go straight for things that I'm interested in but at the same time, I do want to be practical and be in a financially sound position (I'd like to say lucrative too). To take things in another perspective, I don't want to wake up one day and regret that I wasted a number of years in an occupation that I didn't fully enjoy. The things I'm interested in are not what you consider financially sound (my interests are more towards the arts). I'd like to hear other people's advice and perspectives on this. I hope this is good enough information, and I apologize if my descriptions are not exactly clear. Thank you! #career #career-counseling #career-development #life-coach #personal-development
