Should I double major in CS and Physics or CS and Math
My dream occupation is to work as a Data Scientist. I'm soon going to be completing my first semester as a physics student, as part of an incredibly prestigious physics program. We get to run an experiment at CERN in our third year! Thing is, I'm not really interested in working as a physicist. Should I switch to Math & CS? (I will be in a mediocre program.) #college #computer-science #college-major #mathematics #higher-education #physics #software-engineering #data-science

What are some study skills or daily habits that really helped you stay organized in College and Medical School?
In a few years I'll be out of highschool and entering college with the hopes of getting accepted to med-school and UCSF. I wish to know, essentially, how to stay balanced in college. #medicine #healthcare #university #mathematics #college-bound #physics #biomedical-engineering #medicinal-chemistry
In college, I was planning on pursuing a double major. I was planning on obtaining a PhD in astrophysics and a bachelors in robotics engineering. I was wondering: how hard would this be and would it even be possible?
I was planning on obtaining this degree so I would have a back-up plan in life. If one career fell through, I could rely on the other. I find both subjects really interesting to me and I would like to make possible careers out of them. In the best case scenario, I could possibly find a career where I could make use of both degrees. Please help. #physics #double-major #robotics #astrophysics #robotics-engineer
I was planning on majoring in Astrophysics in college with a PhD, but the college I was planning on attending does not offer astrophysics as a major. However, they offer physics as a major and have astrophysics as a minor. Is it the same?
I am asking this question because it will ultimately determine my future. I was planning on majoring in astrophysics because I find the subject matter simply fascinating. The reason why I have my heart set on this particular college is because I was planning on obtaining a double major, a bachelors in robotics engineering and a PhD in astrophysics. I've been told that with PhD's you have a main area of focus that becomes the essence of your degree, but I'm not sure about the validity of that. Please help. #physics #double-major #astrophysics #science-phd
I want to be a theoretical physicist.
In the STEM industries, I am curious about which school I may attend to become a theoretical physicist and what is the percentage of job placement coming out of college? #science
Do political and industrial motives significantly influence the types of research conducted by Geophysicists and the impacts of the results they find?
I have always been interested in the environment and especially in geology. The amount of information that an experienced geologist can deduce from aspects of the local strata and environment is amazing to me, and I want to use that information to help people live safely and harmoniously with our natural environment. Unfortunately, it has been difficult for me to find a career that allows me to fulfill that dream. I have talked to a few people who quit working at environmental consulting firms because political interests were so much more potent in influencing company decisions than pure scientific research was. My moral code would not allow me to work in situations like that. I hope that Geophysics will have less political influence because of the emphasis on more theoretical mathematics and physics-based research applied to broader subjects like plate tectonics and seismology, but I know that the research still has practical applications and could be affected by political or industrial motives. #physics #environmental-science #earth-science #geology #geophysics
How often do you learn something new compared to using previous knowledge?
As an engineer, how much of your time is spent using what you have previously learned and applying it? How much of your time is spent learning new material within your field? #engineering #computer #mechanical-engineering #computer-engineering #physics
How much freedom do college physics professors have when determining their topics of research?
I understand that most college professors seek funding from national organizations for their research by writing grants. If you receive the grant, how much freedom do you have in determining how you use the money in your research? Does the organization tell you what they want you to research with their money? #research #physics #professors #grants #researchers
Will studying Physics help me better understand the study of Atmospheric Science?
I've always wanted to study Atmospheric Science and get my masters in that degree, but my parents says it is smarter to get a degree in Physics first, then transfer to Atmospheric Science. Is this a smart move or will it be a waste of time? Is there another degree I could take to help my study of Atmospheric Science? #science #college-major #physics #meteorology #atmospheric-science
Which post secondary school is best to gain a masters in Physics?
I'm curious on what others view as the best post secondary school to gain a masters in Physics. The Physics department in some of the post secondary schools in my state are that interesting or are quite small. I need more ideas. #science #physics #masters-degree
What is the best degree to have between Physics and Engineering Physics?
I want to get my masters in Physics, but my parents are telling me to go into Engineering Physics. They say Physics will not get me far in life, unlike Engineering Physics. I just want to study Physics, but what degree is more challenging and impressive? #engineering #science #college-major #physics
Should I take AP courses next semester or take college courses online?
I'm asking this question because I am not sure if it will benefit me to take college courses in high school to save money, or take the harder AP courses. I want to do what will benefit me the most to become an engineer. #engineering #science #technology #math #physics #mechanical-engineer
What is the primary difference, whether it be course work and classes or what kind of study each are, between a applied physics/ engineering physics major versus a mechanical engineering major? What career opportunities do each of the majors give?
I am confused between applying to college for an applied physics and engineering physics major or simply a mechanical engineering major without clearly understanding what each major entails. I don't know the specific differences between the two majors and it would definitely help if someone cleared it up. #engineering #mechanical-engineering #math #physics #aerospace-engineering #applied-mathematics
Is there a merit selecting an Applied Physics/ Engineering Physics major over a mechanical or aerospace engineering major career wise in the future? Which offers more critical problem-solving requirements for these jobs?
As a student primarily interested in math, physics, and engineering, I constantly wonder which major I should decide. I have loved the necessary logic and problem solving required in some of the math and physics courses I take in high school but always consider if engineering is the right major for me. Both majors in the question require similar skills and interests and I think knowing the distinction and what I will be getting into may help clarify many things. #engineering #mechanical-engineering #math #physics #aerospace-engineering #aerospace #applied-mathematics
