What is it like to be an electrical engineer?

With college right around the corner, I would like to know what it really is like to do this job. I'm trying to decide if this is the career I really would like to pursue. I know some about electricity already and I like the way it all goes in patterns. But I would just like to know if this is really what I want to do with my lfife. #engineering #mathematics #physics #electrical-engineering #stem

Would I be looked down upon for majoring in physics rather than engineering?

My school was visited by a recruiter for a college, but they only have Physics. I know this school would fit me well, and it would be relatively inexpensive, but I don't want to not be hired due to my major being physics rather than a specific type of engineering. #engineering #college-major #physics #electrical-engineering

How much of physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics are used in environmental engineering (each)? Is the field generally enjoyable for someone with a love of physics and math? Do environmental engineers spend much of their time at their work outside?

As a devoted environmentalist and vegetarian, I believe improving the environment is absolutely my purpose in math. As I have a passion for physics and mathematics (particularly calculus), engineering seems to be my best fit for my science expertise. However, I am undecided on whether simply teaching physics and participating in environmentally beneficial hobbies is a best bet rather than engineering, due to my wish of a career that is heavy in physics. #engineering #science #mechanical-engineering #mathematics #math #physics #environmental #undecided

Should I spend less time and money in college but graduate with a less desirable degree for my intended career?

Hi! My name's Keegan and I'm currently an undergraduate student in the honors program at Tulane University. After seeing and realizing the financial burden of my first semester here on both my family and my future self, I started thinking about changing my previous plan of a 3+2 year dual degree physics and engineering program at Tulane and then Vanderbilt or Johns Hopkins to simply triple majoring in 4 years here in mathematics, physics, and economics. Upon paring down even further, I figured out that I can graduate in 3 doing a double major in mathematics and physics, or in 2 with a mathematics major + physics minor. My cost of college would potentially halve, and I would be able to pursue a graduate degree on a shorter timescale. However, what I want to do as a career is automotive engineering, and I'm not sure what path I would be able to take from an undergraduate degree in mathematics to get to that point. Is it a better idea to spend less money and accrue less debt but have a less desirable degree for my intended career, or is it better to stick it out for a longer period of time and graduate with a more diverse range of degrees? #mechanical-engineering #graduate-school #mathematics #physics #automotive #graduate-recruitment #mathematics-education

Should I take AP Biology or Regular Physics?

Hey there! So I'm at a controversy right now because I don't know if I should take AP Biology or Physics my Junior year of highschool. So I'm taking: Honors Biology- 9th grade Honors Chemistry- 10th grade AP Biology or Physics- 11th grade AP Bioogy (if I took Physics my 11th year) or AP Chemistry- 12th grade What I've heard before is that it's better for me to take Physics 11th grade because I'm planning on going into the medical field. But, on the other hand, I want to take AP to get my college credit. Any recommendations? #college #doctor #science #biology #university #higher-education #physics

How beneficial will AP Physics C be for freshmen year college physics?

I do not plan on attempting to place out of Physics 100 in college (every person I've encountered on visits has dissuaded me for some very good reasons). Though I am curious as to how helpful AP physics will be/how much of the same material will be covered. Can't seem to tell from course descriptions. Any insight? #college-major #professor #physics #college-student

How feasible is it to have a job in research?

I'm in high school and currently pursuing astrophysics. I've been involved in some programs and internships and I think research is what I want to do. Most people tell me the only jobs in this field are university professors, NASA paper-pushers, and Bill Nye. Is it possible to have a job exclusively in research? Or maybe something in conjunction with a computer science-related job? #computer-science #computer-software #teaching #professor #research #physics

Is it better to attend a smaller or larger university?

I am interested in pursuing astrophysics and computer science. The colleges I'm looking at with appealing programs in those fields range from CalTech to Penn State. If it does come down to a decision, what is your opinion on larger vs. smaller institutions? The former tends to have better facilities/connections while the latter is likely to provide more of an individualized focus. It of course depends on many other factors, but I'm interested in the pros/cons of this aspect in particular. #computer-science #physics #astronomy #astrophysics

I know I want to become a Science Teacher, but what kind should I choose?

My dream is to become a Secondary Science Teacher, but I am unsure which area to focus on. I never enjoyed Anatomy as much because I have a hard time remembering all of those definitions and crazy names on a whim, and my passion has always been Physics, but I am unsure as to how well I will be able to teach sure a hard subject to a 'difficult' age of young adults. Should I merely allow my specialty to encompass all sciences or find focal point? #science #teaching #teacher #physics #secondary-education #home-school

Should I drop a difficult class I enjoy but find challenging and might negatively affect my G.P.A?

So, when I was younger I always thought I'd like physics and took a class this semester in college. I would love to learn the material, but had to drop it after it became apparent the class would negatively affect my G.P.A. Now I'm caught in a dilemma, do I take the class again next semester and risk wasting money and possibly hurting my G.P.A. ? Or should I just forget about taking the class altogether and try to learn on my own. #professor #physics #guidance-counselor

How can one get the most exposure during the first year of college, in order to make an educated decision when choosing the major/minor?

At 18 I might have a target in life, but not necessarily a clear path of how to get there. When attending a technical university that has over 100 engineering majors, what can a student do to get the best exposure to such a wide variety of courses and labs, in order to make sure he didn't miss on education that could have brought him closer to the path best suited for him? #engineering #physics

How is the path for physics major

Okay so as of right now, I am in biotech and I want to switch to physics because Im so intrigued by astrophysics. However, everyone around me tells me its too hard. Physics is too hard for you, you wont find a job, you'll need to get a higher level education and it's expensive. Things along those lines. I want to try but I am not sure. So what I wanted to know was basically how hard is it to find a job, what can do you with that major? #college #career #career-counseling #higher-education #major #physics

As a physics major, how much do the classes I take now affect what I can do while working on a masters degree? If I major in chemistry and not computer science, could that make me ineligible for a project I would have otherwise wanted to work on?

I am majoring in physics and minoring in chemistry, and I am worried that I will not have enough engineering or computer science education by the time I graduate, since those two disciplines are tied so closely to physics. #physics
