How do I learn about public policy as a social work student?
I'm interested in doing public policy and community organizing in the future, but I'm currently a social work student. There are only 2 classes about policy for social work, and I completed one with not a lot learned. I am pursuing a political science minor, but there are no classes on policy writing or analysis. I am a member of a few political-oriented student organizations at my college, but we don't have lots of info about policy and how it works. How to Get Out the Vote?
Have any professionals been involved in civic engagement? I want to get more young people on my college campus involved in voting and the political process, and I would love to draw on you experiences. I'm a member of the College Democrats, Ignite, AAUW, and SGA; all of these organizations are political to some degree but none of them have the pull to get 37,000 students to become registered and active voters on campus. Would love any success stories or advice! #voting #civic-engagement #civics #college #politics #political-science #social-media

I am a senior in high school planning on majoring in political science to possibly obtain a combined BA in Political Science with a Master's in Public Administration. I want to choose a minor that is highly employable but I am unsure which course to take. I love history and philosophy but I am not sure that those minors would be as useful as a minor in journalism or some type of economics or marketing. What jobs relate to the field of international relations/development?
I am currently working towards an undergraduate degree in international development/globalization with a minor in political science at the University of Ottawa. While I am very interested and inspired by the content I have been learning, I am not sure exactly what I want to specialize in when it comes time to apply for my masters degree and search for job experience. Are my only job prospects working in politics or working for an NGO? Money isn't a major priority for me, I just want to help people who are exploited by the international system, therefore working in politics (for "the system") almost seems like it goes against my values. If I worked in politics, I would want the freedom to make a difference in the field, not to be a slave to it. In sum: Are there any job positions in the political field that may provide me with a sense of independence so that I can make a difference rather than work for the system we already have in place? And are there any jobs outside of the political field that can provide me with a means to make a difference internationally, while still providing me with a minimum sense of employment security? #international #political-science #politics #masters-degree #international-relations #human-rights #international-development #globalization
