What is a good path for a human resources career?

Hi! I am Abby, and I don't actually know what I'm going to do with my life. It's a little intimidating and scary as a high school senior. I have done some research on what I am interested in, and declared my major at most prospective schools as psychology. I genuinely like it and I feel like it opens doors to different future careers. However, it is not something I can see myself doing forever, and most psychology majors have to pursue a post-BA education to have a shot at a job. While I am interested in psych, I think a career like HR or another corporate path would work and to keep the door open, I wanted to see if anyone had any advice on how to get started, or what paths people took. My main questions are: - How will it take to exit the "entry level" tier in HR? - How well paying is it? Or, how long did it take to get to a well paying position? This is not something that's extremely high on my list of factors, but I do think it matters quite a bit. - How large is the potential for growth (promotions, bonuses, etc)? - How hard is it to find a job? - Will a psychology major be looked down upon in the hiring sense? I have heard from other sources that this may be an occurrence for psych majors looking to go corporate. - Any other career advice or other potential paths? Thank you so much for your time, and any advice is appreciated! #psychology #college #college-major #career #major #corporate #humanresources #psychologymajor #business #chro #management

B.A. in Psychology + Associates in Business Management

Hi! Currently, I am obtaining an Associates's degree in Business Management from my community college before transferring into a university for a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology. I see that in the United States, people are especially discouraging of Psychology undergraduates in a business field. A lot of people would say to switch for a Bachelors in Business instead and get an Associates's in Psychology, which I do not plan on doing because I love my current placements. I have heard and read from many people that Psychology majors are deemed useful only within clinical and social works. If I were to take the path in those aspects, I am mainly interested in becoming a college academic advisor/counselor. However, I have put it in my best interest and am very determined to find myself a career in the business field after I graduate. I want to ask what is the REALITY of someone with a BA in Psychology and Associates in Business Management to be offered great positions in the business fields. What are some jobs and careers can I be qualified for with these degrees? What is something you would recommend me to do in order to gain experience or expose me to the works of psychology and business as an undergrad? Please give me any additional advice or information you think would be helpful too! I really appreciate and thank you for your responses! :-) #career #business #humanresources #human-resources #marketing #businessmarketing #business-marketing #psychology #businessadministration #business-administration #corporate #businessmanagement #business-management #counselor #academic-counselor #academiccounselor #univeristy #communitycollege #community-college #universityofcalifornia #university-of-california #psychmajor #psychologymajor #psych-major #psychology-major #company #california #unitedstates #uited-states

What job opportunities/prospects and environments are available to someone with a Bachelor's of Science in Applied Psychology?

I know that I could probably work in a hospital, or a therapist's/psychologist's office. I would like to know if there are any jobs where I would be mobile or could make housecalls or videochat with patients who cannot make it to an office building or perhaps are in another country? (There seems to be a big new calling for online therapists or mobile apps for therapy that I have been seeing advertised on social media). I have a big fascination for other cultures and I want to be available to everyone and have a bigger outreach for patient care. I also have a penpal in Germany, and have since age 15. I love talking to all different kinds of people. #psychology #mentalhealth #psychologydegree #psychologymajor

When studying psychology as a major in college, what are the best ways to prepare yourself for not only tests and exams, but also once you have your degree and are attempting to find a stable start to your psychology journey?

Whenever you hear someone express what they plan to do once they finally receive their degree in college, you always seem to wonder how they'll be able to do so and what you will need to do in order to get where you want to be. It's very important as a student and as a progressive learner that you have all the information and different paths of which you can take to begin your career. It's always scary when you first begin any new, unfamiliar task and the best thing you can do is ask questions and know all the how's, what's, and when's. #askquestions #psychologymajor

What are the psychological affects working in the mental health department?

For majority of my existence I have personally dealt with Mental Illness and I know that in many cases one could get triggered on a certain topic. For me though, helping other people who are just like me has always been such a huge dream, but I want to know my risks involved so I am not only prepared, but certain that I won't go down a dark path when dealing with any subject. This has always been a passion of mine and if I can save the life of one person then I think my life is fulfilling. #nevergiveup #psychologymajor #mental-health #mental-health-care

What are things to add to your resume or application to make you stand out to colleges?

I work and I heard my counselor say that is something that a lot of colleges don't see anymore. They see a lot of impressive writing camps and things like that to make them stand out, but I just want to know what makes you really stand out to colleges when they are looking through your applications. #college-admissions #psychologymajor

What is the best to take notes during a lecture if you are more of a Kinesthetic Learner?

I am in a couple of lecture classes, but because I am still in High School, the teachers still tend to hold our hands a little bit with it. I feel like the level of intensity will change once I am in college and I would like to know how to be better prepared with it also considering the fact that I am a kinesthetic learner. #psychologymajor #psychology #kinesthetic

Is it bad if I am only considering colleges that have my sport in division 1?

I love my sport and it is a huge stress reliever for me, causing me to only consider schools with great teams. Usually people make sure their major has a great program at the school and THEN sports/hobbies, but I am doing it backwards. Is that okay as long as my college has my major too? #sport #psychologymajor #school #priorities #applying
