How can I make sexual health education into a career?

I'm a current senior in college, and I'm going to graduate in the spring with a major in Human Biology and a concentration in human reproduction and sexuality. I know plenty of people who educate others on sexual health, but that is just a small part of their job. I want my job to be predominantly sexual health education, and potentially research. #public-health #sexual-health #education #human-biology #counseling #health

What are some career options in Public Health and what does it involve?

I am soon to be graduating with a Biology degree, but am really unsure about what I want to do with it. I do not particularly want to go into lab science, and definitely want to go to grad school after college. Entering a master’s program for public health is definitely something that I am considering, but I do wonder if I am qualified/if I am at a disadvantage since I did not major in it. However, I feel like I don’t know exactly what careers a Master’s program can lead to and if this is a field that is already saturated/has good job prospects in the future. So if someone could help me learn more about this realm of healthcare, please help me out! Up until now, I had been considering options like becoming a PA or going to the med school route but I want to keep myself open to options like this as it really does interest me! I should also mention the specific areas of Public Health I am interested in are both microbiology and epidemiology. #publichealth #health-sciences #health-administration #public-health #career-paths #higher-education #health #microbiology

What are some good ways to get funding for an MPH program and study abroad programs?

I will be starting my MPH in epidemiology in the fall and I do not have much money. My entire education has been self funded. I am very interested in being a field epidemiologist and do more hands on work. I have seen some great summer programs where students can go to developing countries and help with relief efforts. The only set back is that I don't have the money to pay out of pocket for these trips. I really want to help as much as I can. I already volunteer at two local agencies and I am with a public health group on campus. What are some ways to get funding in order to travel abroad, and are there study abroad programs for Masters of Public Health students? Thanks! #epidemiology #public-health #mph #graduate-school #masters-degree

To create a non-profit organization combating hunger through sustainable agriculture, what area of study would be most relevant? Business management, agriculture, sustainability and nutrition all factor in, but which is the best approach?

In many parts of the world there is an extreme shortage of nutritious food and simultaneously very little practice of environmentally sustainable agriculture. A non-profit organization specialized in farming could perhaps kill two birds with one stone. #nonprofits #agriculture #public-health #sustainability

What exactly is a public health coordinator?

I met with a public health nurse a few weeks ago to talk about birth control. I asked her how she got to be doing what she did, and I found her answer very interesting. I would LOVE to educate people about proper sex education (STI's, different types of birth control, consent, gender & sexuality, etc.). She said I might like to become a public health coordinator. What does a PHC do, and what would I have to major in to become one if I'm interested? I don't want to go to nursing school (can't afford it, not into medicine), but I don't want to be a teacher either. What do you advise that I do? #career #college-major #nurse #health #college-advice #career-advice #public-health #public-health-coordinator

How does one handle unexpected circumstances, such as being short staffed and having to perform a treatment one has not done before?

I am asking this question because of my increasing curiosity in nursing. At my school, we go to the nursing home to practice our CNA skills. I have witnessed the nurses that work there have trouble because of lack of staff. I am just curious as to how one goes about getting the work done efficiently, on time, and still managing to make everyone happy. #nursing #public-health #medicine #hospital-and-health-care

Would you recommend a 4+1 program, even if the workload could be really harsh?

I have recently been accepted to Tulane University and I am really excited about their 4+1 Public Health program. Although I am really excited about the program, some people have warned me of trying to get my masters in 5 years in a city where the distractions are endless. Any thoughts? #college #medicine #college-majors #public-health
