How do you leave a meaningful impact online?
So I want to pursue a career in social media. Social media remains as a goldmine of opportunity, even 10 years after the creation of arguably the most prevalent platform, YouTube. These platforms are filled with just normal people whose lives are entirely transformed by virtue of being entertainers and content creators for massive online audiences, and I think I should seize my opportunity to jump in before further legislature and regulation and whatnot become established enough to create barriers to entry. However, I still wonder myself if I'll ever actually make an impact on people. Even if I garner a significant following online, I have a hard time believing that I can leave a meaningful legacy for the folks at home who may simply watch me for a quick laugh and then move on with their lives. How do I pursue a career in social media?
Hello everyone, I am currently a junior in college majoring in Business Accounting and minoring in Public Relations. My interest has always been in social media, blogging, content management (I love writing), and a little bit of graphic design. I love being able to impact and influence other's lives through one of the most powerful tools we have today - social media. However, I'm not sure how to go about this career. From my understanding, a lot of social media positions require a background in marketing and advertising - which some times requires a lot of strategizing and pitching. As creative as I am, I also enjoy a sense of routine and stability; I don't want to always have to meet marketing/advertising goals, as I find that to be extremely stressful. Furthermore, I'm not sure what position(s) in the field would enable me to continue growing. It seems like Social Media Coordinator/Manager is just about as high as you can climb - and I want to pursue something that'll allow for me to make major advances in both a financial and skills standpoint. I was thinking maybe I could try to aim for a Communications Manager position? What does "long-term" mean in volunteering?
I am homeschooled, so I don't have many extracurricular activities. Because of this, and also because I enjoy it, I volunteer a lot. In August, I started volunteering once a week at a hospital in Outpatient Registration. I enjoy it, and I am planning on continuing through the summer. I am not sure if I will be able to continue volunteering there in the fall, though. I have heard that colleges like students who have long term volunteering positions, and I was wondering if one year is considered long term? If it is considered long term, then I probably will not continue to volunteer at the hospital in the fall, because I will be busy with other things. If it is not considered long term, then I will make an effort to continue volunteering there, even if it is difficult.
