What are some majors that are good for undecided students?

Should I just go in undecided? I'm just worried that if I do, I won't be able to transfer into a certain course later on if it's full. Majors relating to STEM appeal to me, but I'm pretty sure my understanding of math isn't strong enough for me to succeed in anything STEM related.

Employers: How important is school ranking when hiring?

Hello, I am currently in high school and I want to study mechanical engineering to hopefully break into aerospace. I would like to work for JPL or Boeing in the future but I cannot afford to attend colleges out of state (where it has much better rankings) because of how expensive everything is as well as family related issues. I do have a chance to attend an in-state school but, it is a lower ranked school nationally and I am worried that it might hinder some opportunities to advance in my future career. So, I am hoping to obtain sound advice using this website as the people I have talked to haven’t been much of a help. Is college ranking a determining factor of whether of not someone can be successful in the field of engineering? Thank you.

How exactly should I choose a career in STEM?

Being in STEM is something that I would love to do however, I am not sure exactly what career I want. I know I want to do something that can help people, possibly work with machinery, and have a really good pay. I hate working in teams and I would rather meet up with people initially to discuss plans and then do my work independently. But, engineering does do a lot of team work so I really need to learn how to be efficient with my time. I have been in multiple STEM programs but one of my favorite projects were creating prosthetic limbs and designing mechanical parts and research. So, I am interested in biomedical engineering but, I am also interested in aerospace. Growing up, I never really had much of an interest in planes but I really like learning about space and different theories or possibilities of what the world can look like billion years from now. I have other interests in career choices such as mechatronics, cyber security, and mechanical engineering. I have talked to other people of how exactly should I choose my career but they would always tell me to, ¨follow your passion¨. But here´s the thing... I don´t have a passion! How exactly can I even choose the right career for me when I don´t have passion and I just like STEM?

Is it better to do your undergrad in mechanical engineering and for grad school, focus on the actual career?

Hello, I am currently a junior and I am preparing for my major and the college that I want to be enrolled in. I am interested in being a part of STEM however I am not sure what I want to do exactly. Some of my career interests include aerospace, biotech, biomedical, nuclear engineer, robotics, genetic engineering, forensic science or criminal justice, and cyber security. I am also planning on double majoring as an economic + STEM. However, since I am not sure what I want to do as a career choice and want to be able to live as confortably as possible, I am planning on getting a degree that is worth my time and money. So, I am currently thinking of majoring in mechanical engineering for my bachelor´s and do my career option for my master´s. Is this a good idea for me or should I only do my associates in mechanical and then focus on my career goals in STEM?

What's the difference between working in a lab and working in R&D for a company?

I'm graduating with my bachelor's degree in physics this May (yay!), and I learned that I loved working in the lab, performing experiments, doing computational analyses, drawing conclusions, etc. I'd love to work in a lab at some point but there seem to be a lot of entry barriers for physicists who don't have a higher degree. I'm wondering what the main differences are between working in a lab and working in a research and development role in industry. Any insight appreciated!

similar jobs to a geneticist

I am a student that thrives in my STEM classes. I also have good social skills, especially with children and people with special needs. My dream job would be a genetic counselor that meets with families who are about to have a child with a genetic disorder, to meet with those families in the future to check in, and to study the genes of individuals. I fear that there is not a job that allows me to do all three. #stem #geneticist
