What should a college-bound student do in the summer before their first fall semester?

Hello, everyone! I'm a recent graduate of an early college program. I've an Associates in Arts degree and high school diploma under my belt, but I have no idea what my next move should be. There are tons of resources at my disposal, but frankly I'm not sure where to start. I've been accepted into the school of my choice and am slowly getting the technical things (e.g. housing) situated, but I can't help that there is some massive step (or a few smaller, helpful ones) that I'm not taking. How should a high school graduate spend her summer? What are a few (lesser known) things you wish you did before moving onto campus for the first time? #college #undergraduate #college-student

What do you do when you don't know what to do?

For the past few years, I've told family, friends, and members of the community that I am interested in medicine. I spent all of eleventh grade consuming chemistry and biology classes; I've had family members approach me and say that I simply fated to become a the cancer- and common-cold-curing doctor that envisioned me to be. I've already been accepted into a biology program at the institution I'm interested in. No matter how 'smart,' 'brilliant,' or 'doctor-like' I'm told I am, though, I can't shake the feeling that that is the wrong profession for me. All the same, I don't want to disappoint the people who've invested their time in me. If everyone says that I am going to be a great physician, how can I doubt it? If not doctoring, what is there for me? Long-winded stories aside, what might an indecisive student (with a lot of well-intended pressure behind them) do in their first months or years of college? #college #biology #undergraduate

Other than classes and/or location. What are major differences between undergrad and graduate school?

I have just received my Bachelor in Science in Computer Science. I plan on attending graduate school this Fall to receive my Masters. I'm not your typical person who likes surprises. So I would like to have an idea of what I should expect attending graduate school in the Fall. #college #graduate-school #undergraduate

What advice would you give to current undergraduate students?

Whether you have graduated decades ago or recently or are nearing graduation, what are some tips and things you wish you knew earlier? It can be any sort of advice from volunteering more, focusing more on your health and diet, or time management. As a current undergraduate student, I do think there are some things that I have yet to know or understand, and would really like to know what I have to expect or what I should be doing or do more of before graduating. #advice #undergraduate

What does it truly mean to do 'research' in today's time?

Having gone through my first year of college- it is common to hear the word "research" often. What does it really mean to do research? I am looking for someone who has done research, doesn't matter what field, to explain what it means to them and how they would define it. I think any textbook definition of it seems limiting because the term "research" can be used for a variety of different things. Can someone share their experiences having done research themselves. #business #medicine #science #pre-med #graduate-school #research #undergraduate

Does it look better to do an internship or to get a job on a resume?

I'm currently a senior in high school and will be attending college in the fall. I hope to become a doctor, and thus must be thinking ahead to medical school. I'm debating between getting a job and getting an internship this summer (and was also thinking about my time throughout college). I was wondering if it looks better on a resume to get a job, as this shows responsibility and will help me earn money to pay my tuition, or to get an internship, as this helps me gain experience and work with professionals. #college #doctor #jobs #internships #resume #medical-school #undergraduate #college-jobs

For anyone who has been/is pre-med: How many years into college did you learn you wanted to go pre-med? What experiences or classes in college made you decide pre-med? How many years (undergrad and med-school) did it end up taking?

I'm possibly interested in pre-med, but am wondering if it is best to go into it directly, or if it is possible to go into it in say, my second year of college and how that may affect my time in school. Thanks! #doctor #medicine #pre-med #medical-school #undergraduate

Being a current high school senior and going to college next year to study on a pre-medicine track, would you recommend majoring in a broad science such as Biology or Chemistry? How about a more specific major like Microbiology?

I am interested in working in the medical field. I don't have a set career in mind but I am looking at pursuing a career as a Physician or Physician Assistant. I am thinking about majoring in Biology but I was told by a friend of mine that it is better to major in a subject that is specific since it comes with more career options. He was telling me this based on his college experience. #college #biology #physician #careers #undergraduate #life-sciences #pre-medicine

How many clubs, internships, and work study programs is too much?

I am attending the University of Washington this upcoming fall and will be majoring in biochemistry. My goal is to get accepted into med school in the future which obviously requires many extracurricular activities and volunteer work. Currently, I am signed up for work study, I plan to get involved with at least 2 science-based clubs (maybe even become coordinator or president of those clubs), and do volunteer work on the side at the local hospital. Is jumping in head-first the right thing to do? Should I ease back on everything? If so, will my med school application be less desirable if so have less going on during my undergraduate? Thank you to whoever can help me! #internships #medical-school #undergraduate #college-applications #extracurriculars

Can you get into a good well-known private university if you wait a year before going?

Hi! I am a sophomore in high school and am planning to go to a smaller college to become an RNA an then go to a bigger private university after to receive my bachelors degree in neurobiology and/or general biology before going to med school. Will going to a smaller college before trying to get into a private university affect my chances into being accepted?
