What are the key programming languages that front-end web developers should know? How about for back-end web developers?

Hello, I'm David, a rising, college sophomore, who is majoring in Information Technology, with a concentration in web and mobile app. development. The reason I'm asking this is that I'm thinking about becoming a future front-end web developer, but at the same time, am deciding whether or not a full-stack developer would be a right fit for me. #information-technology #web-development #software-developer

How necessary is it to get a college degree for web development or UI/UX design?

I am a current high school senior considering whether or not I want to dedicate four year’s time and go into debt for a bachelor’s degree in computer science with a minor in design. I am hoping to get online certificates and take online courses instead as I’ve heard the computer science/design fields hire mostly based on experience and portfolio rather than education. If I were to not attend college, what are my chances of obtaining a good job as a web developer or UI/UX designer? Would it take forever for me to find a job in these fields without a degree? #design #computer #technology #computer-science #uxdesign #uidesign #user-experience #graphic-design #technology #web-development

I just got an offer! How do I tailor my resume?

I just got an offer from a recruiter yesterday. She asked me to send my resume to her email since I want to have an internship to explore the different industries. The recruiter offered me free training in web development. Although, my resume has no experience related to the "web development" field. Should I pass my current resume (the only one I have) without tailoring it or should I tailor it to that field?

How much of the time is a backend software engineer actually writing code?

I'm a CS major in college and I am about to finish up a 12-week internship in backend software engineering at a division of a very large tech company. I'm a little surprised at what % of my internship was actually spent writing code: just about 3 of the 12 weeks. The other 9 weeks were mostly spent reading code, reading documentation, learning to use internal tools, writing configs, writing test cases, minor bug fixes, and spending a lot of time communicating or coordinating with coworkers. Most of my tasks were not coding intensive, and looking at the rest of the team it looks like around half of the team is more involved in testing/analysis than coding. This is very different from what I'm used to in my CS coursework at my University -- where our focus is almost entirely on writing code that solves assigned problems. What's a normal breakdown for backend software engineers of writing code vs. some of the other things that you do? Was my experience this summer typical? #software-engineering #programming #software-development #python #web-development #backend-development
