What kind of internships are helpful, and available for English majors?

I've heard that it is a bit tough to get a job with an English major; so, i was wondering if an internship may help and what those may look like. #literature #english #career #higher-education #humanities

Internships will give you experience in a field you are looking to enter and also provide you with an opportunity to make connections and build your network in that field. It's a great way to determine whether you'd like to do particular tasks and in what type of environment.

Conducting informational interviews with people who are currently using their English degrees in a variety of settings may give you insight into what you may like to pursue and may even lead to internships or to referrals that may help you. Many colleges and universities have alumni that are willing to be contacted by underclassmen and may be willing to mentor you. Let them know you are looking for graduates who majored in English.

Hi Lydia! There's a lot you can do with an English degree, and many internships available. Magazines and publications are always looking for copywriting interns. Or, you can apply to be an assistant intern to an editor. Places like Hearst always have a ton of openings.

An English degree can also be used in public relations, broadcast, or social media management so maybe search local PR/marketing firms and local news stations to see if you can secure an internship there.

After you receive your teacher's degree, you could apply at a district as a teacher's assistant, and work when a teacher calls in sick. Good luck, Mark
