Social Work degrees can lead to careers in counselling, teaching, and personal support work. Although I am not a Social Worker, I have seen others choose the path as a stepping stone into other pathways.

Typically BSW level social workers have case management type positions where they work to help individuals/families/groups to engage in services /activities/supports as needed. These are great positions for developing assessment and engagement skills while also gaining familiarity with local resources and related referral processes. It's also a good way to learn more about populations served by social workers and determine which directions one might wish to take for their future career as a social worker. Most BSWs do decide to continue with graduate studies to obtain their MSW and many go right from their undergraduate work into graduate studies. I found working in the field in between to be very helpful for the reasons previously mentioned.
