How can I have a great college experience?

Hello, I am currently a high school senior about to graduate in May also with my associates, and I am going to college in August. I plan on majoring in psychology where I plan to go. I want to know how I can make my college experience an unforgettable one.

Hi Dana! A "great" college experience is all subjective so I would suggest not going in with any predetermined expectations of how it "should" be. Instead, just try to be as open as possible to all the new opportunities and potential interests that will be presented to you throughout the experience. You never know what may ignite a passion in you until you try different things and learn what speaks to you. College is the perfect environment for this personal exploration and provides the opportunity to get to know yourself on a deeper level. Whatever form that takes is fine, just remember to enjoy the ride since it will be different for every individual.

My opinion on having a great college experience? Do your best to explore your college/university...outside of the classroom.

For sure, the overall goal in going to college is to get your degree and build a sustainable career. You will find over time that going to college is only the first step in building a sustainable career...but while you are there, try to take the time to appreciate all of what your college/university has to offer. Are there cultural events, museums on or near your campus? What are the awesome things that the clubs at your college/university are doing to enhance student/campus life? Are there any clubs that may be of interest to you that you could take the time to join? Sometimes being a member of a club or two can not only break up the monotony of being in the classroom but can expose you to new ways of thinking and new friends to think with :).

What about that super-cool professor (that you will eventually meet :))? What does that professor offer in terms of ways to engage on research projects that they are a part of?

I am not encouraging you to take your eyes off of the goal of going to college but I am hoping that you are able to experience the richness that college/university attendance can bring..which can improve your overall time there. Enjoy it to the fullest!
