Hello Valerie. Since you just earned your GED, you've already taken the first step toward that goal. To start, you'll need to apply to an accredited nursing program at a community college, university, or nursing school. Each school has its own admission requirements, but most will ask for your GED, transcripts, and sometimes placement tests or background checks.

Once you're accepted, you'll study subjects like anatomy, biology, and patient care, and you'll also complete clinical training in hospitals or clinics.
If you're worried about paying for school, there are several ways to cover the cost. You can apply for financial aid. Many hospitals also offer nursing scholarships or programs that pay for your education if you agree to work for them afterward.

You don't need to go to one specific school to become a nurse, but it's important to choose an accredited nursing program. With hard work, planning, and support, you can achieve your goal and begin a rewarding career in nursing.

Hi there!

I hope it's okay that I'm replying. I'm not a nurse myself, but I work closely with nurses at a community college in Ohio.

Think about what kind of nurse you want to become. Are you considering being a CNA or an NP? It's also a good idea to check with your state for any specific licensing requirements.

In our area, some companies and schools help with education costs. You might want to look into local hospitals or hospital systems for similar opportunities.

Hello Valerie,

To become a nurse you will need to earn a nursing degree, pass necessary licensure exams, obtain a nursing license and get experience in the field. There are many different universities and nursing schools that offer nursing programs around the country and in your state of Florida.

In terms of expenses there might be ways to get paid if you can get a scholarship, some employers will pay for your tuition, there might be loan repayment and public service loan forgiveness for some employers. You will need to look up specific nursing schools and employers to find out about whether you could possible qualify for the things listed above.

Hope you are able to become a nurse!
