What are the benefits of being a chef in day to day life?
I am a student of Oak Harbor High school in Ohio and I was considering becoming a chef, so I'm trying to get some extra information before I make my decision.

Hi Gabreil - I have been working as a chef for about 20 years. It was a second career that I started in my late 20s after working in finance.
I love being a Chef but it can be a hard life. Usually that's what people want to know but what i love is
1. Just feeding people. Putting my heart on the plate
2. Learning about new cuisines, ingredients, techniques. I learn something everyday even after all these years
3. Developing recipes. My job requires a lot of recipe development and I love learning and creating and then teaching my team and seeing a dish come to life
4. Developing younger Chef's and then watching them lead their own kitchens
5. Developing and fostering relationships with farmers and purveyors. They are inspiring
6. Just being in the kitchen. I love being the first one in. The calm, the quiet. Sounds of turning on the hoods. It is incredible
Hope that is helpful!
