Hi Aubrey. Preparing for a career in actuarial science is a great choice, especially since you already enjoy math. First, you need to focus on building a strong math foundation. Take as many math classes as you can in high school, such as calculus, statistics, and advanced algebra. Learning to solve difficult problems and think logically will help you a lot as an actuarial student.

Next, you should learn more about the actuarial field itself. Look up the Society of Actuaries (SOA) or other organizations for actuaries. Their websites explain what actuaries do, what exams you must pass, and what skills employers want. Understanding the profession early will help you know what to expect and how to plan your steps.

When you begin your studies at the university, you can consider majoring in actuarial science, applied math, or a related subject like data science or finance.

In addition, you should get involved in clubs or groups once you are on campus. If there is an actuarial science club, math club, or finance group, join it. These clubs often host guest speakers, study groups, and networking events. They can also help you learn about internships, which are very important for starting your career.
