What would I have to prepare for to be a pilot?

I am drawn to a career as a pilot because it requires technical skills and being calm under pressure. This field is my passion because it seems fun and sounds like it comes with benefits, and it requires respect for the elements and quick, decision making. I also would like this job because I have heard that they make above average money. what are the most effective mental and physical frameworks a pilot uses to maintain situational awareness when automated systems provide bad information?

Im a 8th grade student

I like money

WARNING ⚠️‼️ There is no cure for the love of flying except more flying 😊

Becoming a pilot is a great goal. Most pilots choose the career because they simply just love flying, traveling, and the responsibility, not only for the money.

1. How pilots stay aware when automation gives wrong information
Few important mental habits and systems to stay safe.

Cross-checking Flight instruments

We never rely on just one screen or system. We constantly compare different instruments (altitude, airspeed, attitude, navigation, FMS) to see if everything agrees. If something looks wrong, we correct. Autopilot not doing what you want? AP off and hand fly (Happens every here and there)

“Aviate, Navigate, Communicate” (You’ll hear this all throughout your aviation career, from Student pilot - Airline pilot/ Charter)
This is a basic rule pilots follow when something unusual happens
1. Aviate – Fly the airplane first and keep it stable.
2. Navigate – Make sure you know where you are going.
3. Communicate – Then talk to air traffic control

Using checklists

Follow checklists for abnormal situations. These help make sure nothing important is forgotten, especially under pressure.

Staying calm and slowing down

A good pilot avoids rushing. When something looks wrong, take a breath, analyze the situation, and solve the problem step-by-step.
Crew teamwork (CRM) This is why having two pilot is very important.

In every Airliner, Charter, or Cargo Jets aircraft there are two pilots. We work together, and confirm important actions per SOP ( Standard Operating Manual)

2. Physical and mental skills pilots need
Pilots train themselves to develop
* Strong focus and attention to detail
* Good communication skills
* Quick but careful decision-making
* Good health and eyesight (Must pass medical exams)
* The ability to stay calm under stress

3. What you should prepare for if you want to be a pilot
If you are interested in aviation now, here are some great things to start doing.
Learn more about airplanes and aviation,
Read books, watch educational aviation videos, network on social media, visit aviation museums, or when you’re at the airport you can always talk to the pilot. Come say hi in the flight deck when you’re boarding.
Also, focus and graduate HS.

Build discipline and responsibility
Following procedures and checklists
Continuously learning and training throughout your career.
Taking responsibility for safety

Stay healthy and active

Must pass medical exams, so taking care of your health matters 100%

Try aviation activities
Things like:
* flight simulators
* Discovery Flight. (Highly recommended, This is when you’ll see if you truly enjoy it. Experience flying for the first time and learn the basics of how airplanes work
* visiting airports- Especially the smaller uncontrolled airports.

4. About money
Pilots do make way above-average salaries, especially after gaining experience. But it takes years of training and flying to reach the higher-paying jobs.
